The sickness is called Chikungunya (in Swahili) and is caused by the Chikungunya Virus which belongs to the same species (but a different strain) of virus that causes Dengue fever.

The symptoms include flu-like symptoms including a severe headache, chills, high fever, joint pain, nausea and vomiting. The joints of the extremities in particular become swollen and painful to the touch. A rash may sometimes occur. Chikungunya in Swahili means "stooping" and refers to the positions that victims take to relieve the joint pain.

Based on the symptoms, it can be seen that it is a VPK imbalance and easily affects folks who have ama, weak agni and low ojas. Vata symptoms of this disease includes but not limited to headache, severe back and joint pain, Pitta imbalance inlcudes fever, red rashes and infection and Kapha imbalance includes nausea, vomiting and swelling in the joints.

I am presently providing consultation to my uncle in india who has contracted this infection. I have put him on a sannipattika food program and also supporting that with herbs. The Herbs include a digestive formula to support his agni (Triphala based) and a formula for his chief complaint that includes Guduchhi as chief (for liver and blood tonification), Punarnava as a support (rasayana for the joints), Guggulu as Assist (to combat infection and pain) and Turmeric as a carrier.

It's now 3 weeks since he has been on this program and he is showing superb recovery. Except for slight joint pains, he does not have any other symptoms. His appetite is strong, coating on tongue has reduced considerably and feels more energetic. I have asked him to continue the sammipattika food program and the two herbal formulas.

Regards,

Keshav

According to ayurveda , there are 25 types(total)of Jwar. Is it mean that Chicken gunia is nothing but Vatjwar or any other type. In allopathy there is no any vaccine or treatment (some doctor prefer Ibuprofen , Glucose). As there are many yog that is applicable in numbers of jwar. I expect to complte dicussion on Jwar & nidana,& chikitsa.
