Guest guest
Out fo 24 hours in a day, we sleep at least 6 hours (some may sleep more too). A devotee is recommended to chant 16 rounds a day (which takes upto a maximum of 2 1/2 hours). We can spend the remaining time (15 1/2 hours) in prayer, working for Krishna and performing our obligatory duties. You see, by sleeping we lose contact with Krishna Consciousness, unless one is meditating or peforming Yoga Nidra even when asleep. Dreaming is a sheer waste of time, and some people indulge even in daydreaming. Waking is the only time when we can work for Krishna, chant harinaam, pray, perform duties prescribed by Krishna, look after our family, friends and relatives and help them along the path to Krishna Consciousness. Pure Krishna Consciousness is diluted by TV,Radio,Internet based entertainment,Cinema and an endless list of distractions. One of the worst distractions today is the mobile phone! People actually have become so addicted to it, they can't leave it even for a moment. How many of us actually keep the phone away before going to bed? We simply have to find a way to put aside these sources of distraction, or they eat away from our Krishna Consciousness, and plunge us back to the material worldly awareness, which is dull and full of misery. The only way is to chant incessantly (keertanam), or listen to bhajans (Sravanam) in the company of devotees. Krishna says to engage in Devotional Service, and it is upto us to dedicate our lives, our very praana (life force) in chanting harinaam. Lord Hanuman had achieved a state of incessant rememberance of the Lord, not for a moment would he stop chanting the name of the Lord Rama.We have to be at least a tenth of Lord Hanuman, chanting 16 rounds is not so big a task. We have to take time out for Krishna to start with. The best time to start is always NOW! Haribol! Haribol! All glories to Srila Prabhupada! All glories to the devotees of the Lord Sri Krishna! May you all find peace! May you all find prosperity! May you all find Happiness! May you all find meaning in this life!

We also need to realize that the material things that we have here are here for our use as ordained by Bhagavan Himself. Otherwise we would not have been born here. I find it really hard to to the fact that the things we have today including entertainment are meant to be ignored. In fact some celebrities such as Robin Williams mentioned Visnu by name in an interview on the Actors Studio as if he knows deep inside of himself that the Supersoul is there and with his comedy he enlightens others, that does not necessarily mean that he knows Visnu directly but it is possible, he even made a joke about being a Guru with a saffron scarf that someone let him use in his comedy, even that is a way of preaching to Remember Krsna. We are all at different levels. Not the same. Some are neophytes and some are not. We do this in different ways, it is not all just bona-fide, especially in this age of Kali-yuga in which most people cannot even come to Love One Another as we have been instructed to do in this age. Krishna is everywhere and he teaches us via entertainment and everyday normal life-lessons as well, that is a fact. We need to stop ignoring the rest of the world if we are going to preach to them as well and come to a universal understanding with each other and promote Peace. I am personally tired of being so bona-fide, it has made me all alone. I am not initiated but I know that I Love Lord Krsna, but if I decide to separate myself from everyone else just to meditate it just makes matters worse. The more I desire association the more I lose it, and that is because that goes in the area of lusting for others and not just going through the process respectfully to myself and others. We all need to work together more or less. Chanting incessantly is dangerous and I know that to be an absolute fact in my life, I know because I am rendered penniless right now with my parents paying my way because I have not done things in Moderation, nor have other devotees taught me to do things in Moderation which is not the best way. I have prayed to Lord Krsna to help me over and over again, but only with the Faith that I have in Him will he help me, and that means that I have to take the action. We need to do our devotion in good measure and in Equilibrium. If not no preaching gets done. I live in a city in which there are never any sankirtans whatsoever. In fact the only devotees I know are too busy doing there own projects, they are way too focused on their chanting. What about everybody else? I more than anything want an established temple and preaching center where I live but unfortunately no one I know here is grounded enough to set up a temple. I know why they are that way, they chant avoidantly. I'm learning not to chant so incessantly and when I calm down, I get my duties done and I even get a job because I listen to Bhagavan, I don't try to create or imitate what he wants to do. Even Srila Prabhupada and His Disciples sometimes had to stop chanting in order to get temples built. Our actions are our chanting as well. Hare Krsna, Bhakta Aaron Moderator's response:- Dear Aaron, May Lord Krishna always smile upon you. Indeed you have said it very rightly that moderation is required in Kaliyuga and chanting incessantly can be dangerous. That's why I said at least 16 rounds a day, which is just 2 1/2 hours out of 24. I was just praising Hanuman when I mentioned incessant chanting. I wish your desire to have a temple near your place comes true.Indeed to balance all the parameters of life is very very essential and the material utilities like TV, Radio, Internet can be used effectively for preaching. I spend a lots of time listening to Radiokrishna. All KC activities are actually entertainment. Singing, dancing, organising performances by bhaktas, cooking, all these activities do entertain us and we need to do them in equal measure, that's why Srila Prabhupada prescribed a maximum of 16 rounds, not more, and there have been cases where he reprimanded people for ignoring their daily duties. Our obligatory duties should never ever be forgotten, that is where we learn to perform selfless work actually, through performing obligatory duties. We must have the same enthusiasm in performing obligatory duties as we have in chanting harinaam. I agree with what you said about cellphones. I ride a bicycle now everyday, (ever since my car burned down on the way to do some service with devotees I ride a bike now)and everytime I see a driver almost making a fatal mistake or driving carelessly, they are talking on a cellphone. It is really sad, almost every other person I run into anywhere is talking on a cellphone. Hardly anyone talks to their neighbor anymore. It is very said to be riding down West End here and I see people drive by in their expensive cars not caring about the homeless whatsoever but just enjoying with their 'rebel without a cause' attitude. I live in Nashville by the way, and it really needs Krishna! Hare Krsna, Bhakta Aaron Radha Krsna Guna Gao!
