My American friend, Ved Bell, who is a follower of Mata Amrutanandamayi, asked me why is it that some Hindu temples didn’t allow him to go in. He has married to a Nepali Hindu woman. They follow Hinduism. Now that lot of African blacks, Caucasians, Chinese and people from other races follow sanatan dharma, our temples need to rethink about few conservative rules.
But, there are some amazing facts about our temples:
Most of the temples have huge, fort like gigantic boundary wall around it, whereas most of the palaces in India (built before 1000AD) never had a huge fort around it! In fact royal palaces in other countries had huge protective forts and wall around it. In India it was the other way around – that was a confusing mystery for me till recently.
I had an opportunity to see few old documents of land in Kerala.
It was astonishing – I found most of the old records (done in brass plate) say the land belongs to “pandaram vaha” (in Malayalam Pandaram=Bhandaram=Hundi.) That is, the entire land belonged to the deity in the nearby temple.
The King was just a Dasa (slave) of the deity. In Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), Kerala State, the King was known as “Padmanabha Dasa” (=slave of Lord Padmanabha). And the temple was built for Sri Padmanabha (Lord Vishnu). Tamil brothers and sisters, are you familiar with the terminology, “Adiyen, Ramanuja Dasan” (Me, slave of Ramanuja)?
According to Indian civil law, even now, all deities are treated as perpetual minors. And the king (now trust) is just a karyakar = servant, not owner. In all other countries like the West and Middle East, Kings and royal family really “owned” the country. Barring some exceptions, in India, the land belonged to the deity. People of the country can build house or do farming.
So do not compare the ancient Indian system of governance (in which temple played major role) with that of West and Middle East where Kings were autocrats. And, please, please, don’t go by Indian history texts written by die-hard fan of invaders, that they taught you in schools and colleges.
When Arabians and Europeans came to India, the then Hindu kings thought that they were “Athiti” (Guests) hence considered as “Deva” (God). So kings provided them free land and money to build Churches and Mosques along with freedom to worship. Go check old documents – the land for Churches and Mosques was donated by Hindu Kings. (I have never heard otherwise happening anywhere in the world! Will Saudi Arabia or Vatican give a small piece of land to build a Hindu temple?)
Another aspect: Ancient temples (Devalaya) were not a place for prayers. Temples never had a prayer hall like that in Churches or Mosque (Prarthanalaya). Of course, there were mandapa = pillared outdoor hall for performing arts and public rituals in temples. When you go to an old temple, the sanctum sanctorum itself is very small and dark. Hardly two or three people can stand in front of it.
That means temples had some other purpose. Fact: – temples were powerhouses of energy. Every ritual, prayer, ceremonies were only secondary to be in a temple but the main thing is to be in the field of consecrated energy.I don’t know how did they do it, but I have read somewhere that even individual karmic energy can be stored and retrieved in temple. But we lost all those ancient wisdom on energy contact and we are left only with rituals or we have become overly ritualistic, without understanding the real significance of temples.
Another fact is that temples were store house of enormous treasures too. This explains gigantic fort around the temple. Recently Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple of Thiruvananthapuram was in the news as it became one of the richest Hindu Temple in India. It is believed that the total assets of Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple have now exceeded the assets of the Tirupati Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh. The wealth accumulated in the temples was used purely for dharma deeds.
The priest, mostly a poor Brahmin, in the temple would get one or two meals a day, that’s all. There were chaultries (inns) and rest houses associated with those temples that provided food and shelter for the poor and needy. All the karma was done based on the concept “Sarvam Sri Krishnarpanam Astu” (Everything I offer to Krishna or the divine). Everybody followed the dharmic way of life – the symbolic centre of this system was the temple.
That was our ancient economic system – our dharma was based on sharing and caring. Our ancestors built huge store house of energy, wisdom (libraries and universities) and physical wealth associated with the temple premises. They worked hard and stored everything as treasure for coming generations. And temples were highest seat of marvelous architecture, sculptures, arts and science. And that’s when the anceint world called :”Glory that was India.”
The Dark Age began with the arrival of the brutal, religious fanatic, barbaric invaders who attacked, looted and destroyed the temple-economy. According to independent historians, more than hundred thousand Hindu temples (the likes of Somanatha temple) were destroyed by those demonic invaders and killed nearly 75 million Hindus (preferred death to giving up their dharma) during the process. The entire temple-system was thus perished. They burned away our universities and libraries.
While our ancestors gave importance to education, arts, music, health, environment and nature, the barbaric invaders did not build even one school or hospital. All they did was to build palaces and gardens for their enjoyment, tombs to perpetuate their memory and forts for their security. Lot of beautiful temples were destroyed and converted to tombs – one example could be the Taj Mahal!
Naturally, those ordinary peace-loving Hindus around the temple-system became very scared and insecure; hence they tried protecting the remaining temples. They believed that non-Hindus may destroy it. But, alas, the cunning, pimp-ish Hindu politicians failed the remaining temple-system.
An ardent follower of sanatan dharma like me would not blame any other religions for this downfall. It is our own politicians, who arrogantly taken over the right to manage richest temples in India. For the most part, the temples and its wealth are transferred arbitrarily by the government for “secular”, non-Hindu purposes. The most damaging side-effect of this is lack of resources for maintenance and upkeep of temples, leading to irreparable damage to many medieval and ancient structures. I have personally seen and experienced this.
Hindus are now feeling insecure and scared, not because of Muslims or any other religions, but because of our own “Hindu Secular Politicians” (all political parties included) who are worst and crooked than the brutal and barbaric invaders.

Why can we not file a group action suit against the Government to make them accountable for the upkeep and maintenance of all the ancient Hindu temples since they have taken over the right to manage the wealth of the Temples but have failed to do so and diverting the wealth for other purposes? Why can we not have a court constituted body consisting of religious heads to monitor and address the above issue?
A good article to be pondered with.
YES. WE ALL HINDUS MUST UNITE AND PRESSURISE ALL POLITICIANS NOT TO SLEEP , UNLESS SOON OUR TRADITION VL BE ONLY IN HISTORY BOOKS..
What a great article. I’d have never considered the possibility that the king is a servant of the temple deities. I am so proud to be a tolerant Hindu.
Shridhar
Hi, I totally agree with you. I feel myself sorry and sad for destruction of old Hindu Temples. Only the barbarians can do this, they were illiterate people and nothing to do with any religion. No Religion of the world teach to be barbarian or to destroy temples or places of workship.
Excellent article and well written! I recently visited the Puri Jagannath temple and the behaviour of the Pandas (priests) was shocking. It doesn’t feel like a temple, it feels like a business. The Pandas curse people, even children if they are not given money. Wish the Pandas knew that they are but slaves of God and wish we could do something about it. And if the government does not have the right to manage the property of Mosques and Churches, how dare they try to manage the property of temples!
America’s real “temples” are her National Parks and Monuments. India’s Temples, I would think, could be preserved and protected by their Government by designating them as National Monuments, which, in a very real sense, they are. National Monuments (and Parks) are to be enjoyed by all the people – citizenry as well as visitors from other lands. I would suggest and stress two things however, out of many, that students, from the lowest grades to graduation, should be taught to truly appreciate their National Treasures, and (unfortunately necessary) that utmost care be taken to insure all people – citizens and foreigners – be adequately screened for safety. Over time, this could result in much pleasure for all concerned and some improvement in foreign relations.
The King of France used to be called the lieutenants of Christ and it was Christ who was considered the real and true king of France. Since 1789, with the Free-Masonic led French Revolution and the decapitation of the King Louis XVI and the French monarchy this relationship with Christ is gone. Today only 4% or so of the French population are practicing Catholics. True followers of Christ are against colonisation. For example, colonisation of Algeria was not the feat of the French people but that of the socialist, leftist French government with a strong Jewish influence on both the Algerian and French soil just like today the French government ordered the French army to bombared Lybia thanks to the Jew Bernard-Henry LEVY, the warmonger, who incited and influenced the said government to do so. The French government also support the terrorist group ISIS to obtain regime change in Syria. Thank God they have failed. The French people in their vast majority do not want such intervention abroad. On the religious side, one has to understand that the JESUITS and Free Masonry have infiltrated the Vatican, especially since the early 60s with the advent of Council II. Everything is upside down today in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis is the first Jesuit Pope in history. He is also the first one to wear a cross in iron, not gold like the all the previous Popes in history. Why? One has to look into the life of Ignacius de Loyola, the founder of the Jesuit Order to find the answer. Anyone can find out about the being who visited Loyola when he was in a delirium of pain due to wonds of war. This is the internet age and anyone who makes the effort can freee himself or herself from the lies of those who, from one generation to another, want to remain masters of this world. The Jesuits say that they obey the Pope no matter what and yet when at some point in history it was banned and dissolved forever by a Pope they fled to Prussia and in Saint Petersburg and late came back. If they really obey the Pope then they should not have emerged ever in history but yet we have them now at the very top of the Catholic clergy in Vatican wih one of them as the Pope.
Anyway, Truth will set us free.
Would like to add a comment at the risk of sounding foolishly polyannish. And that is to put forth the idea of Government secretively encouraging members of the private sector, and even private individuals, to regularly extend acts of compassion especially toward so-called hostile nations. If such compassionate doings were not actually known to be government sponsored or encouraged, those other governments, and especially their citizenry, might evolve to have an improved change-of-heart – from perceived enemies to comradeship. Only good could conceivably be the outcome.
Wonderful.
I was recently in India and I could feel everything that is written. As far as the energy of the temples, and the indifference of the government to preserve this rich heritage.
I agree qith your views. Alas we have lost a lot of our old treasures. Many of our temples in Kerala need funds for their upkeep.
Hindu temples all over India are treasure houses and a perennial source of income. All such Devsthans are now acquired and are under the control of state Governments. The elected members of state assemblies use this temple income for their educational trusts officially. The educational trusts created by them are purely family business houses. They are mightier than Gods . No hindu god will dare to take any action against the seasoned politicians and temple priests who consider themselves as the facto the owner of deities. They charge heavily to have a darshan of gods/deities
Shiva will return and make them pay, that they always seem to forget. I am sure of it.
Dont forget that it is kali yuga. The former kings fid not realise this. That which was done in the previous yugas cannot be applied in kali yuga.what happened when kali yuga put its feet on this planet.Bhagwat puranaans shaksit hai.Hindus should rise and fight agianst their politicians who are the past demons incarnate. If you do not do this they will do it.you took birth in kali yuga.It is not krisnas fault. It is your past karma.Kali yuga has 4 lacks years to go.Dont take birth again in that period.you are bewared.
Very good article. The RSS, VHP and other socalled Hindu organisations should strive to take ack he temples from the clutches of the demonic politicians and hence the Government. Hindus should join in lakhs to file a case. Has the Govt. guts to take over Churches and masjids or even touch a part of their land. The govt has all laws for establishment of a Hindu place of worship and destroy temples. But Churches and mosques can be built anywhere anytime and anyhow.
Good article. The other reason, as my Guru told me, is that most non-hindus are beef eaters and are not clean . So they are not allowed.
Great article…
Action need to be taken by the government…
Atleast to maintain a glimpse of ancient cultures for Future generation
I feel now we should allow non Hindus in the temples. As all are children of god.
We act in a very funny way sometimes. My friend Dr Kulachandra Singh was not allowed to enter Jagannath Temple of Puri only because he has Japanese like features.
So far as cleanliness is concerned at times priests in the temple are very dirty.
Still more information are unearthed. When we know the inner soul everything will be revealed. Time will come, religion can be perished but not the Dharma…. Hindu is not a religion it is dharma…
The other day, in my office, a muslim guy bought some beef in his tiffin and everyone just pounced on it for a bit. Even the so-called hindus. I was truly pained to see the people totally sidelining their religion.
With respect to all I would like to bring some critical flaws…
Hindus nowhere in history neither tried to expand their boundaries or atleast even tried to defend themselves..Its a cowardice killing themselves instead of killing the barbarians..why were Hindus never united? The reason being so called higher catses never ever treated others equally. No scripture has taught Hindus to fight..Though krishna in Bhagawadgita told Arjuna to kill bad and Chanakya reiterated that evil must be removed but mostly Hindus always tried to run away from evil instead of attacking evil.. Had Hindus had fought together no Barbarian would have invaded us and our lands from presentaday Afghanistan to far east would have remained as Bharat . Instaed of blaming politicianas we must either coorectly understand Bhagawadgita and learn fighting against evil instead of saying “that we love peace” and we kill ourselves or cry against barbarians..
Very good article, it makes sense how Raja Maraja’s managed the state/country’s wealth. They use to have temple as common place for the community and restored energy through power of GOD.
SSDS is god given Dharma that does not condemn any other Dharma as long as they have faith in God.
Every temple in India is not same, some real ones, some commercialised and some self centred. I personally would do my research before visiting these temples.
Politician do they best for their country and people at large. Temples in those days were like Banks in todays world.
Every person is welcomed in Lord’s temple as long as you are aware of basic rules.
Dear Sir
The main context – why a non Hindu is not allowed into our temples is not answered in this article. The article itself was
educative.
very good article
Mesopotamian origin and the Aryan over lords of Eurasian origin began to inter marry. The Atharvaveda Period began and the Temple worship of the Mespopotamian origin Shaivism, Vaishnavism, and Shakthaism entered the Vedas together with agriculture and architecture through the Aagama (that which came from outside) Shastras. At this time the Druid Temples were integrated as Yantras into the Aryan system. The Aryan law born on the steppes that stretched from East Prussia to Mongolia to serve the warlike, pastoral nomads proscribed the ownership of Mother Earth (Bhu Shree) by men and so it was that in the integrative process, land was vested in the temples and the Aryan Kings, who had now to rule even more by consent after their hegemony and power had been broken by the great Civil War, deferred to the Patron Gods rather than the remote Brahma and his officers (Dasha Dikpalakas) of Nature and who (Nava Grahas) enforced Karma and Dharma. The temples emerged as the refuge of last resort and under the modified Bharatha Varsha (laws of Bharatha originating in the Treaty of Bharatha) a fifth of the produce went to the cultivator, a fifth for public works such as irrigation, roads and so on, a fifth for running the guru kulas and dharmashalas for the care of widows, orphans, pilgrims and others, a fifth for the maintenance of law and order, security and the justice system and the final fifth to the temple to be drawn for the welfare of the contributing congregation in times of emergency and need whether war, famine, disease or natural calamity. Siva Temples dispensed free education and shelter. Vishnu Temples dispensed free entertainment and refreshments while maintaining the treasury. Shaktha Temples dispensed free health care and food. The temple as a Yantra was now endowed and imbued with power both by the Aryan tradition (Havans and Yajnas) as well as the Druid tradition (Aagamas). While the Druid worship was performed in the Sanctum, the Ayran worship was dipensed in Vedic style on the Brahma Peetha constructed for the purpose in front of the Sanctum while Justice was dispensed on a Mantapa constructed for the purpose in the North East or South by the Shastri before whom, depeding on the stature of the temple, appeals were brought against decisions of the Panchayath or the King’s Court. Mythology (Puranas) proliferated and were used by the Shaivas, Vasihnavas and Shaakthas to subtly claim superiority over each other while bringing about integration (for example Shiva was defeated abjectly by Vishnu in Vaishnavite traditions and it is his bow that Rama encounters in the Seeta Syamvara, Vishnu is constantly praying to Shiva in Shaivite tradtions, where Shiva also removes Brahma’s fifth head for lying about Shiva’s infinite nature, and Shakthi is constantly being invoked to come to the rescue of the others and save them from monsters of their own creation. In this process, the Aryan-Vedic Brahma, the supreme creator from whom comes his light Mitra who together with his fluid Varuna and matter Aryama form the cosmos. Mitra forms and sustains 12,000 types of Suns. From the Sun comes his light Savitur (father) comprising the three Gunas of Virinchi (creative etc), Narayana (sustaining etc) and Shankara (transcreative etc), who, as light, warmth etc (Sandhya), life etc (Savitri), sound etc (Gayatri) and knowledge etc (Sarasvathi) forms and sustains life here in unison with water (Aapa) and soil (Bhu) the two mothers, began to fade into the back ground, remembered, yet half forgotten in the Sansdhya Vandhana and the Brahma Gayathri under the mythological under growth.
In 1921, the British began to dismantle what had passed for Hinduism until such time by commencing a canard of lies to discredit Brahmins and exterminate Brahmanism. British stooge Patro of the Justice Party (ancestor of the “Dravids”)promulgated an ordinance to discriminate against the Brahmins in all walks of life. In 1923, the British took over the temples and swamped them by including Non-Hindus (such as Dalits etc) as Hindus to destroy the congregational temple welfare system. The Indian Constitution of 1949, that enshrined inequality under law and exceptions to the rule of law and the 1949 law that took over the temples of the erstwhile kingdoms for the plunder and loot of the ruling classes including the funding of churches, madrassas and Haj pilgrimages rather than establishing schools centered on Vedic education and Ayur Veda hospitals for congregational benefit replaced Hinduism with a “secular” Government notion with the approval of the “secular” courts that were driven by “four legs good, two legs bad”, Dalit, Christian, Moslem. and other notions about what Hinduism must be. As a result, while Jallykatt is banned as cruel to animals, Halal is widely celebrated and while Karthikai Deepam is banned, the violence of illegally amplified Aazan continues five times a day.
This is a good and authentic article. After the Mahabharatha War. Aryan law under went drastic change. The Shudras were included in the Guru Kula Varna system. The tributary Druids of Mesopotamian origin and the Aryan over lords of Eurasian origin began to inter marry. Informative and very good article. We have to be proactive both ways. As a temple administrator we should not discriminate between poor and rich which would avoid government interference. As a servant of God, we should propagate the glory and importance of having temple among general people. So that government will show least interest in temple and temple management. Because temples are of the sanatandharmi, by the sanatandharmi and for the sanatandharmi.
Some red indian communities also preferred death rather than to leave their culture and religion when Spaniards invaded America.
The caste system and exploitation of a large number of people were not created by the invaders. 🙂
Weren’t there invasions amongst the various small kings prior to the invaders from outside?
In every land and in every religion in this world two types of people exist: the willful and the virtuous. In the Gita, Sri Krishna very perfectly explains the qualities of the willful and the virtuous. In the Koran too, in chapter 2, verses 2 and 6, Param Atma the Supreme God says: 1- ….this book is for those who want to follow virtue, 2- …but for the willful it makes no difference whether you give them a book or not, they will not believe (in Dharma, and will only follow there desires and superstitions). In Arabia too during its barbarian tribal period and after its unification by the virtuous Prophet, these two categories always existed. Unfortunately from the 5th Caliph onwards, Arabia fell into totally willful hands and Islam spread but under the influence of such willful rulers. Then the Mongol barbarians under Chengiz Khan conquered most of the Muslim countries and killed millions of people specially in Iran and Turkey but gradually these barbarian Mongol kings became Muslim themselves and somewhat civilized and then came towards India with a neo, somewhat civilized barbaric nature and after successive carnage, one of them Babar established the Mughal (Mongal) dynasty, and Islam under the influence of willful rulers started spreading even in India, but there barbaric nature was further tamed by the influence of the virtuous teachings of Sri Krishna and Sri Rama. So, Hinduism too like Islam is perfectly constructive if sought through the teachings of Gita and Valmiki Ramayana, but if sought through demonic, superstitious deities, it can be extremely retarding and dangerous for the society and the country.
Hindu temples have been looted during eras and our brethren for reasons best known to them only. These places are commercialized today due to misconceptions and quick heal remedies, suggested by the custodians.
In effect, values are diminishing, faiths are shakier and confidence in one- own-self is rock bottom as a result. So what do we do ?
Listen to our intution, generate belief in one-self , look at others with trust, sift goodness in them and then rationalize what do people who are to carry life cycle longer than me , want to build-up; and help, if one accepts modified concet.
Indeed a Thought Provoking Article doling out facts and the sorry state of affairs in our temples fund management.
This-article should be read by not only by all Hidus but by all Indians.
Some Red Indian communities also preferred death to giving up their culture and religion when the Spaniards invaded America. Some simply gave up life when their king was killed, as they consider him dear and equal to god.
A good thought well expressed. How rightly said that hindus have more fear from their own “secular” people than outsiders. In fact from time immemorial for hinduism or sanatan dharma ar Indian the threat has always been from within.
The reason is very simple, the so called ‘Pseudo-secularists’ who though, born in a hindu family, feel ashamed to call themself ‘Hindu’ & preach that ‘Those who go to temples tease girls’.Unfortunately no nationalist hindu took the person, who made this statement, to task. Such people are solely responsible to dengrade the great Hindu Dharam. When their grandparent were denied entry in to the sacred temple they created a storm, but the same people don’t utter a single word when Non-muslims are not allowed in Mecca & Non Parsis are not allowed to enter the Parsi Fire Temple. Hindu Temple & dharma have always been the target of all the invaders & non hindus and the so called Pseudo-secular hindu’s.It’s very easy to critisize but very difficult to appreciate any religion, because a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
The only way out is to put the fear of life in to those secular hindu
politicians
the HR & CE the Hindu Religious and Cultural Endowment Board, constituted to protect HINDU Temples, by taking it over from religious HINDU Dharma karthas-donors and patrons, is diverting the money for Appointing their kith and kin, mostly non believers, as managers and staff and they spend >40% on their salary, perks, etc. They spend only 10% for poojaris or priests, from whom they collect a commission and another 10% towards Pooja articles, insufficient for them and another 10% for festivals and occasions, insufficient to pay even the pipers and another 20% to please the ruling party and ministers. My late lamented friend SRI.V.S .Srikukar, an advocate, spent his entire life to get back the Hindu Temples, to Hindus, but many Hindu politicians, never helped him. Can the Government do this to churches or mosques? Please think. But the Dravidian parties here encouraged the swindling of the proceeds, of all the temple lands and theft of our idols, in connivance, with other religious outfits, with the ruling party, looking the other way.
Sir, our religious leaders and kings and Chettiars, ran Veda Patasalas, Veda schools, as they believed the knowledge of the Vedas, is best for all, in society.
God alone saves our temples and deities, from such people.
Lokaah Samasthah sukhino Bhavantu.Let us all be happy, for ever, is our prayer.
Very nice and factful article.. is sad to note we ourself are responsible for this downgrade and rest our own countryman in form of congress party are doing the rest.. we must unite and do something urgently…
Instead of crying about the temples lost, lets worry about the temples which are in such poor condition that a lamp & oil itself is a luxury there. How a pujari will prefer to work in such places. Lets see to that a temple near by our surroundings, were we live / work, is able to burn a lamp atleast.
Lets not be fundamentalists or lets not cry about things lost.
Only in darkness light is more bright!
Hope many such informative articles are posted. These increase our awareness and knowledge about our past. The invaders have diluted and destroyed our rich culture and brought and taught their shallow idealogy Each and every Hindu must introspect and try to understand the true values and practices which have been passed on by our ancestors. Only then can we slowly bring about a change in greater mass. The so called secular parties have only done damage and continue to do so in the name of secularism. Neither they understand the true meaning of secularism or they allow others to understand it. They only try to influence their biased thoughts of secularism in the common public. So all Hindus must become more rational and analyse our values and practices and enforce them again, to gain the lost glory.
How do we take them into account, ? several of these temples are rich ???
Those were the era , which have been described as that the gold , silver, sapphire, pearl , diamond and several valuable ( as they are considered well before 1970 ) were not as expensive as we are facing them now. History say, during Sri . Krishnadevaraaya ‘s rule ( Major part of South India ) these things were sold in open Market . People were so rich they did not considered all these as very valuable things.
They would have offered them into SRI HUNDI or gave the ornaments to shrines . People of other part of world knew the value of these things and INVADED our country. Thus , we are in sorry state , as most invaded COUNTRY in this WORLD. Our valuable items have holed up in several country and we are not in position to claim them back.
During war times , it is believed that , rich people kept them into the lockers of temple. They were sure of two aspects , one , if at all they die in the war let it be in the hands of their beloved God , if They , survive they can get them back by leaving some of the ornaments , gold etc as STORAGE charges .
This is how the wealth in several temples have grown unbounded .and now we are calculating them as per the present market rate and they run into terms of CRORES .

Several followers , readers of these articles , have true concern about the depleted conditions of several thousands of TEMPLES in India and also about the living condition of those priests who have to depend on the .income they get for having done POOJA etc.
Governament has taken hold of several temples under Departmental rules and regulations. They do not publish the depictions of the financial picture those temples . If at all they publish they curtail the true picture FOR SEVERAL POLITICAL REASONS .
There are several thousnads of temples which does not have its important narratives that would make them very important and holy shrine . That is why these people who depend on the temple are living in poor condition

Yes, it is a very sad commentary on the plight of the Hindus today. However, more than the ‘secular’ politicians or the biased media, it is the ignorance of the average Hindu believer about his/her own religion which is the root cause of all this. What percentage of the average Hindu knows the meaning behind even worship? We are blindly doing something and this gives room for all the secularists led by our ‘educated-secular’ Hindus to demolish age old practices by pseudo logic. The only way to counter all this will be for the interested and lettered Hindus to learn the basics of our relgion and disseminate it to our own family members and the next generation. This will be a slow and uphill task but will eventually turn the anti-Hindu tide .
If the Government fails to include lessons about Hinduism let us do it properly at home.
Let us not drive our children to spoil their future by neglecting to teach them Hinduism Look at the average Christians and Muslims and there is a lesson for us to learn.
Yes, the facts is a fact and remains the same. Its high time that we are all united and fight for the rights in our own hindu mother land and preserve the left over for our own generation to enjoy, without harm to others. Like many people said, its our political people are the spoiler, and they should all come together to build the old India with richness for all.
Well said in a right way. Do any political person have guts to touch even one church or a mosque? Looks only Hinduism has strong tolerance, but they should not think its our weakness either.
We should allow others to enjoy as well but the remote to be in our hand.
Politicians want control over Prominent Temples, they appoint their persons on the committees of such temples probably through the State Ministry of Law & Judiciary, this should be stopped & IAS Officers bureaucrats, NGO’s & Persons who have done Society Work such as Anna Hazare, Medha Patkar, Advocates Lawyers, Doctors should be appointed as Trustees of such Religious Institutions
Actually every temple in India falls under a legally monitored body to maintain and preserve those temples. Some big temples and pilgrimage places have their own board like TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam) of Tirupati, one is there for Kasi etc. Some fall under Archeological dept. for preserving them. While the Archeological dept. has next to no funds, the temple maintenance committees have huge funds, but everything is eaten up by them. Except for small temples in villages maintained by them, more or less every other temple comes under temple committees under the state government or central government. There is huge corruption there. While Archeological Dept. has very few funds, some special projects for preserving and restoring temple and religious place have ultra huge funds, but they never actually see the place. There is huge corruption there as well. Its all corruption in the end. Its so bad that for over an year pig fat was delivered as cow ghee in Tirupati for the main deity temple for lamps until the corruption was discovered and proved by a TV channel. Even worse no action was taken by the temple board.
As per a regulation of central government, I don’t remember its number, if you are a follower of Hindu religion or follow the Hindu faith you can enter any Hindu temple after declaring it, if not the temple authority has the right to deny entrance. Applies to everybody, even the President of India. They say religion or faith because many foreign countries do not recognize Hinduism as a religion. When someone says I follow or belong to a religion it means legally, so that add faith (so as to say I believe in it). I you honestly follow the sanatana dharma or Hindu Faith and ready to declare it you are eligible to enter any temple legally.
I have a feeling that the Hindus of India that is Bharat are collectively paying our bad karma for more than a millinium for heiniously treating Dalits and oppressing them with orthodox priests discriminating their very existence…I often feel collective nemesis has decimated Hindu architecture, religious places and the very way of living. Caste discrimination has alienated all the down trodden to Islam(forcible conversions during Mogul rule) and subsequently to Christianity under colonial rulers. After I ndependence the ruling Congress party under psudo secular Nehru considered Hindu worship places as a source of revenue under HR&CE DEPTT and ruined the ancient significance of Hindu temple culture by inventing a new name ‘ scientific temper’ a camouflaged and subtle suggestion to all hindus that their civilisational practices are archaic. The modern architect of ths anarchist thought was our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru WHO HIMSELF WAS A STUDENT OF HISTORY ,AUTHOR of repute insidiously created a feeling that all that is Hindu was regressive, unscientific and so on. In his last days he suddenly found peace by keeping Bhagavadgita under his pillow and supposed to have breathed his last. Ironically he left a will expressing his wish to be cremated and his ashes were to be strewn over our sacred Himalayas! Height of hypocracy for a non believer and life long detester of Hindu way of life….His descendents have turned their political party as anti hindu and paid the price…Hopefully the present incumbents shouldn’t waste their energies in obscurantic politicking and do harm to the Hindu majority and lose power to pseudo secularists once again…Lord Krishna predicted this happenings in Mahabharata and said to reinstate the correct meaning and intent of varnasrama dharma not based on birth but by vocation…..Let us hope technology and science will bring this change as the country progresses economically strong and sheds ancient wrong beliefs.
it was the christians that destroyed the temples in india, that´s the truth.
So you consider the caste system bad for society???
Sure they protect the National Monuments. They have been protecting a tomb — Taj Mahal
Sir,
Your knowledge of ancinet temples is wonderful. Indeed they were gathering places and learning places. And, indeed they are energy generators and worthy of worship in their own right (Agamas). Thank you for this wonderful and interesting article.
Hi, I totally agree with you. The article is mind blowing. But, again, we are helpless, just sitting back and
watch the atrocities done by our own hindu endowment board. Only God can help us.
With due respect to all, I want to state that instead of expecting the government to do “SOME THING”, all like minded people should get together secretly and form an alliance to reteieve the knowledge and wisdome of our ancestors who were far far ahead of our their time. Why should it be done secretly ? Because there are forces out there who are well aware of the fact they will lose control and power if such things start happening. Therefore they will use all techniques (saam, daam, dand bhed) at their disposal to destroy or block the attempt.
Also I have concluded that just to understand, digest and act upon this phenomenen one needs to have intellectual knowledge, flexible mind and will to act upon it out of sheer necessity of the need and its importance.
I do not see any such politicians around us.
At the same time intuitively I feel that all this knowledge is safe and secure with people who are still alive. But they are so few and scattered and also leading a very secluded life that it is hard to find them.
Probably they are under instructions from higher forces not to come forward !
Hope this makes sense.
My salutations to several friends who have clearly analysed how our ancient philosophy or DHARMA , which had exceedingly and liberally offered the. ATITHIDEVOBAVA principle and created wide roads for PROFANATION of our sacred temples.
Sri. Shankarachaarya sensed and edued about the possible down fall or total rub out of Hinduism and established mutts to keep his ADVAITA MATA philosophy alive.
All other phylosohical forces also established their conventions .
Bhargavaram
Excellent, thought provoking article. Born a South African, I am really inspired to learn of our Dharma.
Yes in Indian Secularism there is no surprise. Don’t get surprised if the Government spends the Anantha Padmanabha Treasure of Tiruvananthapuram for the sake of other minorities and to obtain Vote. I remember so minorities even claimed the share in it because it is a national treasure and they have right.
Yes Yes in Andhra Pradesh for Simhachalam Temple and Tirupathi Temple earlier during the regime of Dr. YSRaja Sekhar Reddy CM ship (Who is a hardcore Christian tried to give 5 hills of 7 hills of balaji to Christians) there were Christian Executive Offficers.
Hi, If you give one litre of oil for Hindu Temple it is a deemed right of Christians to ask for a kilo ton of Ghee for Churches.
The Kalki yuga has already started ie the golden age for the next 2000 years.Have faith my friends ,all wrongs will be rectified.even the kalyug existed by gods will nothing exists without a reason.Have faith there is no your god or my god .There is going to be oneness among all the religions. If we cry over the past it is of no use the future will be different we have to take all religions together becoz basically we are all one
myself when I read feel good and knowledge but some time helpless mulla and father church till now they r serve through convert our innocent children through movie education job cloth costume but our for father very strong they did guru manthra and worship and yoga now they r helpless and suffering looser secular sickness
It is sad state of affairs that the temples are run as a bussiness and not a place of worship in India, this does not occur in SA. There are some unscrupulous priests that overcharge for their services, but the majority of our temples donot insist on a fee to pray.
Absolutely ri8 bro…
yes. you have a point. we are all one in bodies. but in minds , we differ because of our thinking process es.but these shouldnt make us inferior or superior if believe ourselves peace to all.
When missionaries came to India…we welcomed them as Aththi devo bhava…they only had one book and we had lot of lands.. many of us they told…read the Book Of Lord..close ur eyes and remember the Lord..when we opened the eyes..they had our lands and we had the Book to read only…
A growing number of people dispute that we are in kali yuga. For one thing the Manu Smirti states that lifespan of man will diminish during Kali yuga no increase as it obviously is doing.
If caste system is removed, there will not be reservations for the SC & ST. If this occurs the vote bank empties. So even though the Indian Constitution labelled as “SECULAR” caste declaration is inevitable from birth to death in various certificates. And forget not that Caste system is made by GOD himself and refer BHAGAVADGITA ” Chaaturvarne mayo bhuvaha”- Unfortunately the discrimination due to birth in lower caste prevailed and this has been taken as advantage by missionaries for conversion. And it is also trite to remember that in the caste system various KULA VRITTIS have been practised and there was earning guarantee in that system. I do not want to say that a washer man son must always be a washer man but he need not become a peon in an office instead of an Officer. Please take the essence in appropriate sense.
Indeed correct. If it is religion it will be limited for few. Dharma is Universal. See, there are no meanings or usage of words like GURU, SOUL, YOGA, KARMA, DHARMA, ATMA etc. In certain Muslim countries there was FATWA which stated that since the YOGA practice derived from Hinduism it should not be practised by the people belonging to their country but it has failed because in YOGA there will not be any god but pure inner sense. Likewise the family system of Hindu is such a surprised thing in the West. They really appreciate that one husband and one wife lives after marriage till the death. It is a phantom or alien. The way of perfect living is Hinduism. Here in India god is seen from Lizard to elephant, mouse to hen, lion to mosquito and even trees, stones are worshipped and it was misunderstood by others but it represents a truth that god is everywhere.
It is a pitiable thing. Hindus wants to show that they are open hearted and does such foolish things. You try to offer pork to a Muslim and see what reaction would be. I am really sad of the behaviour of Hindus of such kind. I know many Hindus who eat beef and declare them secular. Curse on them.
God doesn’t belong to one cast, creed, religion and one place. He is a form of energy which is in the entire universe. The mother earth is the guru for this and is showing and teaching us in each and every day of live, but as we are busy in our own lives, we are unable to relies it. In what intension and form you worship, the reaction will be of the same type like the rubber ball. Who ever god you choose, love, serve and worship him whole heartedly. You will enjoy the bless. other than that if you want enjoy the sightseeing then you have to fight with all these negative energy through out the live span. You can change yourself, but you cannot change others. Hinduism is humanism which has taught us to live wholeheartedly and merge with the infinite in your ways. Take one form into your heart, love it , feed it, play with it, cry for it, enjoy it and merge with it.
Alas, what has happened to our great Hindu culture. Temples were spiritual power house and the “bhaktaas’ assembling for prayers were embodiment of peace and love, compassion, warmth and generosity. From the past, from history, we understand that the Hindus were peace loving and accommodative which the invaders took advantage. The main reason was there was disunity among rulers of different regions and were waiting to attack each other at any available opportunity. The attack of our country from the invaders was the best opportunity for the native rulers which cost them their own kingdom. Great kings like Maharana Pratap, Shivaji, Emperor Ashoka, Chandra Gupta and many others united the shattered country but the country could not stay united after their rule ended. Every now and then, there were attacks from the invaders who knew the weakness of the indian rulers. They were bent upon wiping out the Hinduism from the Indian soil but could not succeed. Hinduism has such a strong base that any attempt by the invaders did not allow them in fulfilling their desire. Hindus have not learnt any lesson from the past. The present day ‘secular’ politicians are analogous to the past betrayers. We also have to simplify our rituals and practices and give essence of rituals of worship to reach every Hindu. Many undertake rituals without knowing the meaning, even some of the pandits who perform the rituals may not be knowing the meaning. To safe guard Hinduism, there is a need to have a religious head for the entire country who should teach the essence of Hindu Dharma so that every Hindu should be able to understand and develops full faith.
As far as the admission of non-Hindus to the place of worship, there is no fear of any invader looting the treasures of the temples, and if they have real faith, must be allowed.
Hari om.. Well said.. The Best Vaicharic Mantan on this topic.
I think i am very small to comment on any Aadhyatic world. But I am happy to see many reviews and most of them good one.
I request all sanatam dharmic to comment in this clean and pure form of VICHAARA.
Bhagavate Namah…
@Harsha:
I thoroughly enjoyed reading your comment about how Hindus have never been united and also their history of running away from evil instead of directly attacking it. I myself am originally from Iran (was called Persia pre-WWI) and Arabs did the very same thing to us by destroying most of our heritage. Egypt wasn’t as lucky since they were forced to write/speak in Arabic. Please do not forget that India remains as the ONLY civilization which has held steadfast through many Yugas.
