I don't believe you'd incur a big reaction for this, but this the reason why devotees need to be very very careful when shopping. There are a lot of karmi vegetarian websites that tell you exactly which ingredients have dead animals in them.

What's wrong with dhotis? I read that in many places and restaurants of India, people with dhotis are not welcome. They had the same policy in Iran; nobody dressed as a Mullah was allowed in certain fancy restaurants and other places of "high society". Years later, people got angry, and they had an Islamic revolution. Theocracies AND strictly secular states are extreme sides of the spectrum. Whichever extreme you go, the nation is unhappy and you sow dissent and upheaval will follow.

It depends on the farm, but sadly most of the yoghurt you find in USA common supermarkets has dead animal ingredients. Why? I have no clue. You can make great yogurt without all the gelatin and rennot or whatever it is they use. http://www.stonyfield.com/ This is as good as it gets in the USA.

Religion should be practiced in homes/temples. It is not for public display. Unfortunately, the Islamic headscarf is specifically for public display (and temples, since that is also public in their eyes), but it is not worn at home. Still, I'd like to see scripture of theirs that specifically prescribes the headscarf.

Hypnotherapy and NLP Programming for Celibates
Dervish replied to Devarsirat's topic in Spiritual Discussions
Aye, I really like to read Manah Siksa. I remembered this shloka immediately when I saw this thread, so I reached for the first translation I could find on google.com and found this: http://www.gosai.com/chaitanya/saranagati/html/gaudiya_vaisnava_acaryas/manah_siksa.html Unfortunately, it doesn't cite the translator /images/graemlins/frown.gif -
Quality of meat in India is not very good and can lead to diseases

It's too bad that the desire to enter vegetarianism in this case is the fear of getting sick. -
Hypnotherapy and NLP Programming for Celibates
Dervish replied to Devarsirat's topic in Spiritual Discussions
Dervish posted a good sloka "from a translation of His Divine Grace Bhaktivedanta Narayana Maharaja" and made a good point. Actually my translation is from another source, but I do recall a time when one of his followers told me the purport of that sloka was about the hypocracy of celibacy with pratishta etc. Is this interpretation universal among all the Gaudiya missions, or was that unique to his translation? -
hair loss vs liver/kidney function via sylmarin intake
Dervish replied to bholder23's topic in Ayurveda, Health and Wellbeing
Bholder, You need to find a chinese herbalist/accupuncturist, preferably one that specializes in five element theory. I know a little about five element theory, and from what I learned, hair (on the head) loss is caused by weakness in your water elemental. Water elemental governs kidney and bladder, so since you talked about kidney tenderness, you have a kidney problem that needs to get checked out. As I said, find a chinese healer well versed in five element theory. Please do not construe my post as professional medical advice of any kind. I am a person who reads a variety of books from various disciplines. I try to help people by sharing my knowledge with others. Good luck. -
I wasn't aware of the sikh comment. Now that I think about it, Kerry is scary looking, with that George Lucas pompador hair and those shadowy eye sockets, it looks like his eyes are sunken in. In the end, I had some real appreciation for Kucinich, but I think nowadays only big money wins :/

Hypnotherapy and NLP Programming for Celibates
Dervish replied to Devarsirat's topic in Spiritual Discussions
It means according to Ayurveda, the continued consumptions of sweet foods facilitate feelings of lust. By consuming less sweet and more bitter food, you will be consuming the so-called brahmachari diet. -
http://www.lifeaftertheoilcrash.net Maybe this is one extreme view of the situation, but scary nonetheless. I wonder how this scenerio would affect preaching?

Hypnotherapy and NLP Programming for Celibates
Dervish replied to Devarsirat's topic in Spiritual Discussions
I think that some devotees see celibacy as the ultimate. They think they can become brahmacharis then Sanyasis and leave this world. Mere celibacy and/or vairagya in the mundane sense is insufficient. Sri Manah Siksa Sloka 6 are cetah prodyat-kapata-kuti-nati-bhara-khara- ksaran-mutre snatva dahasi katham atmanam api mam sada tvam gandharva-giridhari-pada-prema-vilasat- sudhambhodhau snatva svam api nitaram mam ca sukhaya "O Mind, why do you burn us both by bathing in the urine trickling from the ass of great deviousness and hypocrisy? Instead, you should delight us by eternally bathing in the glistening nectar-ocean of pure love for Sri Sri Gandharva-Giridhari (Sri Sri Radha-Krsna)." You need seva and as the desire for seva slowly grows, sex desire will go down naturally. In the meantime, stay away from sweet foods. -
Statistics Canada says that Paganism is Canada's fastest growing religion
Dervish replied to a topic in World Review
... a lot of these pagans have never heard of Krishna. Once I told a few about it and they were genuinely interested. I think a lot of these people who join pagan religions do it because they want spirituality but they resent some of the dogmatic elements of Abraham based religions. Some consider Wicca to be this reactionary feminist religion. So how do we reach the youth of today without forcing the idea of living in ashrams -- which isn't even very economicable in this day and age? -

I wonder what they are doing that we are not? -
That would depend on what yer definition of 'costumes' is!

Welp ... I think Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur stated that true Vairagya is deep within the heart. I suppose they weren't ready. Better to own up to it ASAP than to live a lie. The sooner the better.

I'm scared of the environment. May Sri Krsna help us all!

It's too late. The muslims are all over Europe now. Half the Belgian population is Muslim, and they're in every major European country now. They outnumber practicing Anglicans in UK now. Take away the scarves now, despite their being no clear mention of them in the Qur'an, and the Wahhabis will go nuts and start killing people.

<u>Vapu sanga</u> (in order of intensity) #Physical association #On the phone #Internet chat rooms (Paltalk) which has mike facility #Forums (this is sort of a quasi-vapu-sanga, or "pratibimba vapu sanga" /images/graemlins/laugh.gif ) <u>Vani sanga</u> (no particular order) #Lectures on tape #Bhagavatam Book etc #Letters (i.e like SP wrote to Disciples) ----- Both are very important! Better to spend less time on forums and more time reading lectures and scripture. Better for this crazy Dervish to follow his own advice /images/graemlins/laugh.gif There's a paltalk for devotees? Where-where? This should be fun.

Does anyone have any quotes by Srila Prabhupada regarding Holi? Of course as Gaudiya Vaishnavas we must celebrate Gaura Purnima, but I was under the impression that Srila Prabhupad called this a sahajiya festival, and yet I cannot find the quote, but from what I remember I got this quote as second hand information, word of mouth so I want to be careful.
