Guest guest
Namast All, I can only talk of my own experience. I notice that in the latest trouble spots, my samskaras came up. Because of my Irish background, it seems I have a rather sensitive reaction to oppression, or perceived bullying. This was a case of measuring my feelings about one situation and lining them up with another, using the same tendencies or samskaras. These samskaras or others may even have been lying latent, however they are there with all the others, ready to rise and bite you. If these samskaras are not risen above then realisation is not possible for they are the anchors that keep us in the cycle of rebirth. Some samskaras, like some karmas, may be described as good rather than bad. Such as altruism, helping people, doing the right thing etc. They may be golden chains but they still bind. Even a trace of thought binds. It is a task to realise that we are not really these samskaras, for these are what take rebirth and cause the new person. Just my thoughts about what is in my mind right now. Who am I? Om Namah Sivaya Tony.
Guest guest
Much of our daily behavior is conditioned by forces below the conscious level. In Sanskrit these forces are called samskaras. They are a conditioned, automatic way of thinking and responding to events around us. Samskaras ultimately dictate much of our behavior. Many years ago I discovered a short poem. I do not remember its author. The title is “MY ROBOT,” and it goes like this: I have a little robot that goes around with me. I tell him what I’m thinking, I tell him what I see. I tell my little robot all my hopes and fears, It listens and remembers all my joys and tears. At first my little robot followed my command, Bu after years of training it’s gotten out of hand. It doesn’t care what’s right or wrong or what is false or true. No matter what I try, now it tells me what to do. I call my robot Sam Karas… What’s yours? Love, Robert

Guest guest
Hello Gill: I think there is a difference as the samskaras connect with chakras, subtle body, aura etc. Samskaras are associated with the 3 types of karma and will carry forward from one lifetime to the next. They are beyond the mind and emotions though they will work themselves out through the mind/ego function. Until one is fully realized and beyond the actual elements one will still be open to karmas and samskaras. Free will can always be called upon to help one decide how to react to their action. Guest guest
Namaste All, Samskaras at the sub conscious level are mostly acquired in this lifetime, through conditioning etc. I can go along with that. However there are samskaras in the mind that are impressions from previous lifetimes. These include characteristics, talents, desires and attachments etc. These are actually what cause rebirth in the first place. They are beyond the reach of psychologists usually, because they travel with the vijnanamayakosa and anandamayakosa at death. They can be recogised in uncontrollable impulses like in sexual predators etc. There is no realisation until they are risen above and left to the mind to which we really don't belong. Hence Ramana programming them out of some dying people. ONS Tony. , "Skyeryder" <Skyeryder@e...> wrote: > Gill... > > Unconscious or subconscious works for me as samskaras. Guest guest
Hello Jamie: SJSKhalsa is most likely from the Sikh lineage and his words would be in Grumuki rather than Sanskrit. However, the spelling is similar to Ganapataye which is another word for Ganesha.....the remover of obstacles. One would work to bring in the energies of Ganesha or Gananpataye as the aspect of Divinity that removes the obstacles of one's samskaras. For instance you could chant a Ganesha mantra such as Aum Gam Ganapataye Namah...first finding out how to exactly pronounce the words as the sounds will activate different energies within you and your various energy bodies. There are a variety of ways to bring this energy into your life; one could meditate on the Ganesha yantra, do puja to a figure or picture of Ganesha, take part in a yajna as well as doing specific meditations, pranayamas and kriyas to work on the removal of samskaras or to move beyond the limitations of karma. It is important to remember until one is fully realized the law of karma will operate in one's life. There is probably no quick technique that will take care of it all...unless one has done much work in prior lives and this lifetime is simply taking up where the other left off. Of course, connecting to our true self will take care of everything, but even the sage Ramana Maharishi recognized that a certain amount of time would be spent preparing one for direct perception. Many ashrams and centers around the country will offer meditations and chants to Ganesha and if you live around a 3HO center I'm sure they could direct you to meditations to Gumpati. Namaste, Linda >How can we learn these meditations (to Gumpati)? And who's Gumpati?
