He definitely describes > which way Hi Colette, This is from a previous post. A quote from Jean Klein in his book "Who Am I? The Sacred Quest". "Generally the mental function dominates our senses, our perception. For global listening, which is your organic state, to occur, this domination must stop. In stillness the mind functions, taking its place with the rest of the body functions, but its functioning no longer refers to a centre. It merely perceives and names. A mind which is simply in movement is not a problem. On the contrary when the intellect is grounded in silence everything is spontaneously referred to this ground. You see a rose. The intellect perceives and names it. Perfect functioning. But then it goes on and begins to interfere with the perception preventing it from unfolding in direct perception. The imaginary person, the centre of viewpoints, sees the colour and compares it, or likes it, dislikes it perhaps. It thinks about its beauty or remembers some past reference. But during this activity where is the real perfume of the rose? Psychological activity is fractional and sucessive. There can only be one precept or concept at a time, so it is impossible to feel the wholeness of the rose with the every day functioning of the mind. You can only add up its parts. But the true perfume of the rose, what it really is, is not a collection of fractions. When you step back from stressing the parts, when the mind becomes still, the rose comes to you, unfolds in you in all her glory. The perfume invades you completely. The rose is you. You are one. So in listening be still as your legs are still when you don't need them. Let the words, sensations, situations blossom in you and deliver their perfume. Live with this perfume." I enjoy expository writing like this which is straightforward and to the point. Love, Victor

You are one. How beautiful .. yes. I love this. This is understanding .. We are one. I am glad I went back to go read Almaas again yesterday. It made more sense to me than before. Thanks to Holly for that! I see where Almaas explains that it is not that we just become impersonal (like the nothing no thing) but that we are also personally in relationship with everything (as our Self) .. & to taste everything as our Self we can clarify or make transparent the personality .. making it permeable so that we can become whatever we perceive .. That's pretty personal! In essence we are so pure & free & formless & attributeless .. yet in playing personally, we can taste everything as our Self. This phenomenon first began for me in 89 when I merged with another. I became him. It was purely energy. No one physically touched anyone. Yet I knew his body, his thoughts, his feelings as my own. Some of his characteristics grew in me. I became more intellectual, instantly. Stuff I couldn't understand before when I read it, I now could. It was remarkable. Since then it happens more subtly with the environment. Life is such a mystery. When my mum way dying with cancer I was quite miserable & afraid. Really quite fragmented & on the edge. But I couldn't let her see me like that. One day I 'became trust'. Every cell was that taste. I 'was' trust. It was beautiful. Since then I know, that I can reach out put my intent on a taste or quality I wish to Become, & it will come to me somehow ... like peace, or serenity, .. whatever. We can will what we express as, in our Being it seems to me. We have infinite possibilities as our pallette. > > So in listening be still as your legs are still when you > don't need them. You are one. >Love, Victor > The way that I understand it is that you should attempt to percieve the rose as if it is the first time that you have ever experienced it. There free from any concept, idea, or even slightly logical notion about what the object is and your expectations from it you can appreciate all of the sensory delights simultaneously. As there is no thought available in your mind to relate to the rose your experience is full, original and quite likely to be overpowering. I only see two ways to acheive this either the full blanking of ones memory or perhaps facilatating such clear and controlled thought that the mind does not immediately through your entire history with this objects and it's similarities at it all at once. Clarity will allow the emotions and perceptions to go through, control will keep those little thoughts and memories at bay. I view this not as mentioned the rose opening up to you, but indeed you are opening to the rose. Opening your mind, senses, body and soul to the experience that is the rose. Gosh glad I got that one out reasonably clearly. Okay blessings... Steve Mclachlan
