Guest guest
This Ideal Dharma (Religion) Is Realized By Man Inside Himself We have to enter the laboratory of this body in order to realize God and experience Him, in the same manner as a student of science enters his laboratory. He shuts the outer door so as to exclude noise and avoid distraction..... one has to sit inside this body, close the outer doors and open the Inner Door. This "going inside" means gathering the attention at the headquarters of the soul in the body. In other words, the attention which is diffused in the outside world and is pervading every cell of the body and activating it, should be gathered at the headquarters to the extent that it becomes oblivious of the body. All the outer doors should be completely shut, and one should sit inside. After sitting there, have your Spiritual Master by your side so that your attention may find something to concentrate on. You are not the body, but pure soul. Your Guru is not physical. After taking directions from Him, get the experience of connecting yourself inside with the Lord, Who is already there with you in the Temple of God (your body) in the form of Nam, Shabd, Inner Voice or Inner Music. This can happen only when your mind and intellect are pure. -- Huzur Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj in, "My Submission," also reprinted in, "Philosophy of the Masters, Volume Four," RS Books The paragraph above from Huzur Sawan Singh reminds me of Meister Eckhart, who also taught that one has to transcend the creation in order to know the Creator. What a great way of describing the process of going within during meditation: temporarily closing the doors to the world of the five senses and focusing all of one's attention inside at the Seat of the Soul, then discovering the God-Power that is within: the Naam, Word, Shabd Sat Guru: the inner Light and Sound of God. Outer seeing is replaced by inner seeing, outer hearing is replaced by inner hearing. The outer world is transcended and one becomes a Gnostic: someone who's acquainted with the Inner Landscape. The Master says, "I will give you what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, what no hand has touched, and what has never occurred to the human mind." (Coptic Gospel of Thomas, Saying 17) Masters reveal to their disciples a specific Way, Method or Science of Spirituality that leads to spiritual seeing and hearing. They also guide us to the experience of the Inner Sound & Light, the Inner Master-Power, and these are various expressions of the One God (Ik Ong Kaar) Who is the Creator of our soul, and of all souls. Observing Ahimsa: nonviolence in thought, word, & deed, and leading an ethical life are also necessary in order to have genuine stillness, tranquility, and spirituality. By sitting at their feet, the Wisdom of the Masters will create in us a desire for a more peaceful life, and more and more, we bring back with us into the world some of the heaven we discover for ourselves during meditation. Our true identity is not the body or our other coverings (astral, causal, mental, etheric) -- we are a soul. "You are not the body, but pure soul," says Huzur Sawan. Heaven is not up in the sky; the body is the true temple of worship containing the soul, the heavens and God. The real heavens are accessed from inside this human body. Meditation is going through the Door into the temple. The outer Master leads us to the Inner Master inside, and the Inner Master takes us back to God. Darkness is not dark. Silence is not silent. One is never alone. God takes us back to God.
