When I was In Lucknow in the summer of 1997 having a nice place to stay helped me greatly. Because I did not have to think about where I was staying. That was my fourth trip to India, and having a nice place to stay really helped to make it a great experience. There is of cource traditionally an emphasis on not being concerned over such matters as to where one is staying. I agree with that view, however if one is not yet ripe for it, unpleasant surroundings can be an obstacle. Bhagavan Ramana was asked by very many people if they should leave home and take to the homeless life of a renunciate (sanyasi). His answer was almost always no. He said that it is better not to leave when one is unripe for it. He said the obstacles may even increase in the new environment. He said that when one is ripe for it, it happens automatically just like a ripe fruit falling from a tree. After the MahaNirvana of Papaji (Poonjaji) I was thinking about where I wanted to go. I asked David Godman about Sri Ramanasramam, Tiruvannamlai etc. He told me that there were no guest houses there, that I would have to arrange for my own accommodation. A guest house is often created when a foreigner rents a house and then rents rooms to other foreigners. Since that was back in 1997, and since so many people have gone to Tiru since then, I would guess there would be some guest houses there now. Sharing practical information regarding long and short term visits to Tiru, Sri Ramanasramam and Mount Arunachala is one of the purposes of the Sri Arunachala egroup. Therefore if you have any such information please do join the Sri Arunachala group and post such information. Devotees of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi are welcome to use this group as a forum to communicate with each other and share their experiences etc. To join the Sri Arunachala egroup click Arunachala then look upper left and click .
