Guest guest
Hi, Thank you everybody who cared enough to inquire about my safe being. It seems this body-mind complex has some way to go.<s> Ah well, the after shock was mild and only resulted, personally for me, to spill some hot tea on the key board which did not appreciate the infusion of this particular type of energy. Getting another key board was more difficult than I could imagine. As some of you know, the quake disaster is getting to be of immense proportions with death toll expected to breach the 100,000 number. Everything that you can think of, is in shortage, food, medicine, blankets, clothes and off course no shelters. And the total chaos of multitude of agencies (Indian as well as a International) trying to help and getting in the way of each other. People alive have now been trapped over 100 hours and the voices crying for help from beneath the rubble are fading. The issue coming in the way as to what one can personally do, is specifically what and if in a position to help, whom to approach. This is also compounded by the fact that human nature in such times, expresses it's best and it's worst. So umpteen examples of heroic bravery, alongside, looting of the aid materials by the middle men. I have got involved in the purchase and supply of medicines needed for surgeries, to a team of doctors in Mumbai (to whom I have been prattling, now for some time) and who are now flying to join the medical team in Gujarat. There is a desperate seeking for additional doctors, medicines and operating facilities. Do you know surgeries are being carried out by hacksaw blades to free the trapped legs of people under the rubble, so that they can be dragged free from building structures lying on top of them. In case any of you would like to do something, an organisation which I would vouch for is CRY (Child Relief and You). CRY has been involved in the state of Gujarat for decades, run existing rehab- programs essentially for children education and health. They have immediately set up an earthquake relief program and are seeking donations either as money or in kind. Cheques, Drafts, kind, can be airmailed to them as follows: In favour of: CRY-Gujarat Relief Fund Mailing address: 189/A, Anand Estate, Sane Guruji Marg, Mumbai 400 011 India. Contact details: Tel :91-22-3096845 91-22-3096472 E Mail: gujaratrelief (AT) crymail (DOT) org. You could check out directly with them also. Do, whatever arises in you, as appropriate. Appreciate if you could also circulate this to other Lists and organisations/people that you know of. Cheers Sandeep ANetofJewels-
