Sure, there is no need for anyone to defend their choice of diet. Also, there no need for the consumption of meat to a hindrance for desiring to see more humane methods being used in both agriculture, animal breeding and treatment and in the slaughtering process. It could even better the quality of meat. The presence of BSE shows that having an agricultural system which emulates natural conditions (as natural as bred cows and pigs would desire them) would be a benefit for any consumer and perhaps even be a necessity for a safe and healthy agriculture.
