Hello,

We have a grandaughter who has just announced her Bat Mitvah. Could

anyone tell me what is considered an appropriate gift or response for

this grand occasion?

Thanks,

Gloria

Hi Glo,

I can ask my friend Cindy. Ironically, she is in Seattle at the

moment, attending her niece's Bat Mitvah. She should be back soon and

should be full of usefull information.

It is customary to give money -- and of course this is what 13 year olds want

most of all! The number 18 in Hebrew corresponds to life so folks often give

$18 or multiples thereof. A lot of open-hearted kids share their gifts with

charities or with less fortunate children. Mazel Tov! Holly

Re: Is there a rabbi in the house?

Please tell Cindy thank you, David. It seems a nice idea to give some

personal keepsake of the occasion, along with money.

And thanks for writing as well, Holly. Nice to have such an ecletic family here. :)

Love,

Gloria
