Guest guest
Dear Frances, Buddhism spread from India into central asia along major trade routes, first to China. The Silk Road was actually four routes and one was thru Afghanistan. These routes and the making of stupas along them are far more ancient than the 1700's you are inquiring about. If you want to have copies of old trade routes, you might try the public library as a good resource or the Eastern religions departments of universities. Below is best of what turned up on a websearch. Good luck! Gloria http://www.newton.mec.edu/Angier/DimSum/Silk%20Rd.%20Maps.html (Several maps of the four main routes) http://indianculture.about.com/culture/indianculture/library/weekly/bl-buddha.htm?terms=ancient+stupas (lists towns in various countries where major stupas are located) - Cyclotheme (AT) aol (DOT) com Saturday, March 10, 2001 6:13 PM stupa routes Friends:I have a question that I think can be answered by the members of this group, whose knowledge never ceases to amaze me.I want to know where I can get my hands on a map which will show stupa routes, not just in India but also Central Asia, especially Afghanistan. This map would show the routes as they existed hopefully in the time period from 1700's to maybe 1900. I realize routes are ancient and will take anything I can get, earlier or later. Maybe someone could point me towards a book or an institution? I am in NY.Thanks,Frances/joinAll paths go somewhere. No path goes nowhere. Paths, places, sights, perceptions, and indeed all experiences arise from and exist in and subside back into the Space of Awareness. Like waves rising are not different than the ocean, all things arising from Awareness are of the nature of Awareness. Awareness does not come and go but is always Present. It is Home. Home is where the Heart Is. Jnanis know the Heart to be the Finality of Eternal Being. A true devotee relishes in the Truth of Self-Knowledge, spontaneously arising from within into It Self.
