Yes, Wim, you are correct. Unless one has an active infection somewhere in the urinary tract (kidneys, ureters, bladder, urethra) there should be no bacteria in the urine. OTOH, viruses can be found in urine, but most viruses would be killed by the pH of the stomach after you drank the urine. >From a medical standpoint, I'm not aware that the occasional drinking of one's own urine has any serious side effects or associated problems. However, on just a common sense level, it can't be especially good for one to *repeatedly* drink *large amounts* of a compound that your body is obviously trying to get rid of. I am interested in finding out more about possible health benefits of drinking one's own urine (and I am quite open to the fact that there could indeed be demonstrable benefits). Have a peaceful weekend- Mike (M.D.) (Isn't it interesting how quiet I am when people are talking about Advaita or kundalini-associated "rain," but start talking about drinking urine and I am all too eager to jump into the fray? What does it mean? Nothing, of course, just like everything else! :-)

I believe that only when one has a bladder or urethra infection is the urine not good. We should invite SG (Simon) from Angelique's list to Harsha's Satsangh, I bet you he, a fine person, also being a pharmacologist :-) would know. Urine is supposed to be antiseptic. So the next step to keep in mind is that one's urinating organs are clean. So a bath or shower before is the thing to do.. --------------- >Dear David, > You wrote: >> Put it in a glass first. ; ) >Yes and preheat the glass with loads of overflowing hot water, excellent >start... >That would be a good way, if all of us, who feel so inclined, would add >another sentence we will get to the right way arrived at by... us... >Let's make it a kids game... >Thank you David ---------------- >> Wim Borsboom wrote: >> >> > Dear Lobster, > > >> > You wrote: > > > so is drinking urine (yes I tried it when ill) >> > >> > There is a way to do this just right... Guest guest
Hi Beth, You wrote: > THERAPY: CURE FOR BALDNESS, AIDS > > http://www.texasonline.net/langley/columns/drink.htm > > well my gosh, lots of people do it About baldness, I do not know that from experience, as I am not bald. However in Hatha Yoga Pradipika it is promised that one would lose their white hair and look young again. Initially I thought that it meant that my hair would turn dark blond again as I was rather grey, then I thought it meant that I would lose my hair altogether and look like a bald little baby, that young :-). Then I thought... anyway... I forgot about why because the deep urge had nothing to do with care about hair, I was in the thralls of the Kundalini process. Now, it is true that my hair has turned darker... and I look indeed and feel a lot younger. Still I don't know what the urge for me was, there are so many reasons why we do things, no way can we simply know why... There is at least 10 billion years of pressure behind our actions, if we find a single reason... we may have overlooked the lot... I gave up thinking and just started enjoying. About Mike's remark about how much and for how long? Well for me it was for about 4 weeks, then off and on weekly for a while, then just once in a while. I had the advantage of my body telling me and... my mind not interfering. What did my wife think about this and my (then)18 year old son, they must have loved me a lot. Mind you, I also started to spend a lot more time in the bathroom bathing, tending my skin and hair, took colour baths, fragrances. I came out roses, so why would they complain... Emmy used to laugh and comment: "Just like Krishnamurti, he was compulsive about his body and look what became of him." I have to confess that for about 11 years prior to this I was scared of water and although I took regular showers it was only with the greatest apprehension. So we can add to the list of "the right way", "only once a day, not for extended periods, not for any reasons, the body knows best." Maybe someone can suggest what time of the day, the first or second serving? (harharhehe) the whole shot or what portion, it is actually quite logical... The thread goes on, thanks so far for the contributions. In Holland when we had to bring a sample to the doctor we called it our little contribution to the great cause.. Why is it again that I write about this? It is not hat I advise people to just do it, but to make ppl. who were doing it for one reason or another, to know that they did not go crazy. Or... actually, that they may have gone crazy but the reuptake of one's urine helped them to overcome their craziness... Now, might it not hAve to do with serotonin or even norepinephrin. I know that at least in the beginning urine from pregnant horses was used to make an important ingredient for Prozac... is there a connection? Of course, I am not a pregnant horse, not even a horse, but who knows, maybe the body can reabsorb some neuro-transmitter better after it had an initial going over. I don't know, I'm only an intuitive, maybe somebody out there does know. The horse urine maybe a folkloric story, but I don't think so, I believe I read it about it some 15 years ago. Guest guest
I have been curious about this practice for a long time but never tried it because I take lithium every day and I was worried about upsetting my lithium level, either lowering it or increasing it. I am sure lithium must be excreted in urine, it makes me so thirsty all the time. Does anyone have any comments on the effects of drinking urine on those who have to take medication? Guest guest
Hi Frances, To my knowledge, it's not advised for those on medication. Can be dangerous. Check out the site Beth posted. A lot of good information there. Good luck to you. Love, ~jessica Cyclotheme [Cyclotheme] Saturday, March 17, 2001 7:45 AM Re: A useful medicine and always close at hand.
