the thief in the coopery

“…but let none suffer as a…thief…”

-I

Peter 4.15

oh, my beloved reader…,

today I want you to think of me

not as poet

nor as a word-smith

not as a teacher or student,

but as a thief,

the white wolfe,

the merry outlaw

today, I want you to think of me

as the sinner with a noble heart

a wilde and free natural warrior

haunting and hunting moonshine

lurking amidst the dark shadows

guardian of the enchanted forest

who steals into the brooding coopery

taking without remose the sleepy mother

but leaving her golden treasure untouched

so that he may return to steal another night

again and again that which cannot be stolen

guardian of the ancient secret ways

hiding within the shifting shadows

hunting and haunting liquid moonlight

love’s true noble knight without armour

as the one who sins that you may not

i want you to think of me today as just

the merry outlaw,

the white wolfe

a sleazy thief even

that is how I want you to think of me today

what is it that i steal night after endless night?

nothing less than sacred heart of my beloved

but actually not only am i a thief, i am a liar

for you see, my beloved reader, what i have

what i have is never stolen but freely given

every night i steal into the beloved’s sacred heart

every night she gives herself to me freely, wantonly

so that with words i may sneak deep within you

bringing you a treasure you hide within yourself

with words i return to you your own sacred heart

what do i steal from the heart of the midnight coopery

what do i sneak back into the forest with to bring to you

i bring to the secret of your sacred heart’s true desire

that is never for sale, cannot be stolen, a precious gift

that you may not suffer as a robber of mere carnal love

i ask you to sneak into the darkness within the coopery

and discover freely the gift of my dark and true beloved

the truth that you are the true lover of the one beloved

that you are the stolen treasure, you are the divine love!

Oh, my dark one, i steal into you, my beloved Mirabai!
