Guest guest
An inquiry into the dream state... Most interesting: Ahh, so! * The waking state seems so much more real than dream... (from which state is this asked? In the dream state, the waking state is not even imagined). * When I awaken, everything is as it was. Dreams change. (memory gives illusion of continuity in the waking state. It does not in the dream state. In other words, the dream state does not have this illusion). * A need of the body, like thirst, awakens me from dream. (a need of the body, like dreaming, causes me to fall asleep). * The dream state seems "blurred" and isn't remembered well. (in the dream state, the waking state seems nonexistent and isn't remembered at all). * I seem to be in control while awake, dreams just progress as they go. (there is an illusion of a doer in the waking state, none in the dream state) * Dreams have some bizarre, unimaginable contents. (they make perfect sense in the dream state...). * Dreams frequently turn into nightmares. (try the waking state sometime... plenty of day-mares). * When having a nightmare, I want to escape by waking up. (when having a bad day, I want to escape by falling asleep). * I died once in a dream, but I didn't *really* die. (how do I know I didn't really die? In dream I died, in waking I didn't). * I dream of lost loved ones, and meeting them. (awake, I also dream of lost loved ones, and meeting them, but call it remembering). * A dream can become 'lucid' and I know I'm dreaming. (the waking state can become dreamlike, and I forget I'm awake). * I can inquire into consciousness and such while awake, not while dreaming. (in the dream state there are no questions, and all inquiry is automatic). * But my life is here, wide awake. (while dreaming my life is there, fast asleep). * So which state is more real, the waking state or dreaming state? (depends on from which state the question is asked). * Is it better to be in the waking state? (is there much desire to wake up, while dreaming?) * Am I awake or am I asleep? (I am neither awake nor asleep). Namaste, Tim
