>> I asked a member at the Nisargadatta group to share her experience

of meeting Nisargadatta Maharaj <<

Thank you for sharing this with us. Was your friend ever successful in

finding a US publisher for "I Am That"? I remember, a number of years

ago, visiting a friend of my sister and seeing a copy of that book. I

recall my sister telling me that her friend had met Nisargadatta and

that the meeting had been very intense for her also. It was very

interesting to read of Nisargadatta's devotional practices. Ammachi

also puts dots of kum kum on pictures. If you go to her for darshan

you can take a picture of a loved one, a guru, Jesus, anyone, and she

will bless it and put kum kum on it. I have found that ritual is very

meaningful to me. My own ritual practice is broad...and sometimes, of

course, I am not doing any at all. I find that when I am doing

something of this nature, I feel more connected, plugged in, etc.

Last night, as I mentioned in a previous post, I sang (for the first

time in a long, long time) at a little coffee shop. There were just a

few people, and it was very informal, but it was wonderful. Before I

went, I had this intuitive feeling about doing some small ritual

because the new owner of this shop has brought to it a beautiful aura

of warmth and friendliness, but she has also had a few troubles, as

anyone with a new business would have. I collected all my rattles in

a basket, and when I got there, tucked them away. I didn't want

anyone to see them and have expectations, but I wanted them in reach

in case I felt called to do something. After my first song, I felt

the call, so I got the basket out and took a rattle. Then I passed it

around and invited others to take rattles. Almost everyone did,

including the children. Then I said I would offer this chant for the

benefit of Lynn and her shop and in thanks for all that she was

bringing to the community. (It's been so long since I did anything

like this, and so it was so wonderful for me, even though just

brief.) When I do this public ritual work, I automatically enter

another space...

a trancelike space, where I am just the chanting/rattling, and yet I

am aware of everything, even though I have my eyes closed most of the

time. People rattled, and there were several who contributed lovely

syncopated rhythms to my steady rattle pulse. Anyway, it was just

short, but wonderful...I don't know why reading about Nisargadatta

propelled me to share this...Shanti ~ Linda
