Guest guest
Thank you Gloria for a very wise post. Much appreciated with gratitude and worth reading many times. Truly, I am not unsympathetic about that and the plight of any and all marginalized people who are lumped into groups and somehow rejected on that basis. I will also freely admit to being sensitive myself about similar stereotypes and other negative characterizations made about Christians, or women, etc. I don't mean to minimize your hurt feelings, nor all the many issues you have raised in your posts, but I would like us to find some way to de-escalate this current situation. The fallout with the list has only polarized people into taking sides and created even more dissension way beyond the scope of whatever the original issues raised might deserve. Another thing we might agree on at this point is that some of these issues about topics allowed and free speech are divisive, to say the least. This much dissension and polarizing of the group can further distract from the intended list focus and harmony of community. Not saying that is anyone's fault... just stating the fact that many posts, both pro and con have been generated already, some with heat. If the list could cut us both some slack here, and we do the same for one another, this situation need not be escalated into some life and death crisis. So it might be helpful to relax and take a break from this particular controversy. Just a suggestion. This need not become a bigger crisis and nothing urgent actually needs to be done. People have already expressed a great variety of perspectives and all that is clear is that there is not a group consenus. If we can remain friends and be friendly to one another anyway, there need not be any serious harm done. Angelique, I just learned this morning that a very dear person died of a heart attack at 4am this morning. This man means a great deal to everyone in our choral group, as he has freely given of his time to manage it for over 30 years. The Mozart Requiem that we are currently rehearsing was composed by Mozart as he himself lay dying at age 36 and will now be sung dedicated to Paul. Even in death and as the expression of deep sorrow, beautiful and joyful music can emerge to be shared. Still, it takes many false starts, mistakes, and lots of practice to bring out the beauty of this music,to create harmony. The fact that we each take time from our lives to freely give of ourselves and to connect with others, here on this list or anywhere in life,is far too beautiful to let it be marred by allowing ourselves to lose one another, or to miss really hearing and seeing one another. All I can do is open and re-open my heart to you, Angelique, and I do. With love, Gloria
