O dear, just made up a word - but "grit" is used for grinding - also means

pluck or indomitable spirit (as in "isn't Vickie gritty, she's reading

Astavajra Samhita word by word") - "nit" seems to be an "insect" - so

we can

think of that as anything that "bugs" us. So, nitty-gritty is that

indomitable spirit that grings away anything that is lousy. Best I could do

on short notice. Joyce
