Guest guest
Namaste Dharma et al, How is it possible that anyone can teach anybody meditation? Or perhaps it's the use of that word meditation, when what is meant is contemplation or concentration or one pointedness. It is my understanding that teaching meditation is impossible for the individual has to do the process by himself and each person is different. One can only teach the preparation for meditation. You could ask the same question about any teaching. How is it possible to teach anyone anything? You can do a lot of philosophizing about it, but what it comes down to is that you can't do the work for somebody else, but you can give them background, knowledge, motivation, structure, method... and feedback. In learning anything new, it's extremely important to be able to get feedback, to know what just happened, how are you doing, would it have worked better this way, etc., etc. In group formation the feedback comes partly from the teacher, but also from all the members of the group talking about what happened in meditation and discussing it.
