Guest guest
> >The Mayans in public and more in secret have preserved the teachings, Like most everything else, I know nothing much about the Mayans. But recently I went to the Yucatan. And while there we went off to have a look at the great pyramid at Chitzen Itza. My intrepid husband climbed up the pryamid while I, having a fear of heights, cowered at the bottom. Later, our guide told us that inside the temple was a very interesting room that would later be open to the public after the guard had his tea. I was game for this, assuming that it was just a room inside, no steep inclines. Well, inside the temple is a long, very narrow, very steep, slimey-walled, deathly cold, dimly lit staircase that leads up to the top of the pyramid from the inside. No way out, up I climbed sweating and gasping along with a great crowd of others. At the very top is a small room the Mayan priests used for rituals of some sort or other, I didnt even dare speculate. There were candles burning, ghosts everywhere in the gloom. Finally, down the narrow staircase and out we came, suddenly out into spaciousness, warmth and blinding light. Naturally, I have a lot of speculations about THAT - to say the least the re-birthing folks could have a good session there. Another interesting tidbit. Apparently the Mayans had games of football. But they had to hit the ball with their hip and it had to go between the goal posts that where at a great height off the ground. Our guide told us that who ever won the game, the captain of that team got to be the sacrifice to the Gods. We kind of chortled at this assuming it would be the loser who would get his head chopped off - but, now I wonder. Most of my life has been about playing games with life and death, going into and coming out of small spaces - but I've no idea what the Mayans were doing.
