If the supposed recipient of the insult is aware and refuses to accept then the vibration returns to where it came from. Bantering is perhaps something different. In the materialists world of sense enjoyment there is also the desire to gain spiritual knowledge. This intellectualiation without awareness is just spiritual materialism and pretty useless, except of entertaining other intellectuals of the same ilk. There is always two sides to a coin, and many non-spiritually aware delight in taking on the mantle of a spiritually aware person, almost as disinformation. The scriptures are full of such people.
