Hi Dharma,

I seem to remember a discussion of refrigerator quotes recently and I

went and looked on the refrigerator but had nothing interesting to

report (although I suppose I COULD have mentioned the picture of the cow

with the caption "I'm not in the MOOOOOOOOOOOOD to diet").

Your mention of posting the words "You never know!!!" reminded me of

my office door. I have a picture of a tree frog sitting inside a

pitcher plant, with the caption "The obvious is ALWAYS worth a second

look."

Does everyone know the story that Ram Dass (and others I'm sure) tells

about the farmer?

One day the farmer's horse disappeared. The farmer's neighbor (no pun

intended) stopped by to commiserate, as all good neighbors like to do.

He said "Oh my, it's such a shame your horse ran away." The farmer

replied "You never know..." A week or so later, the horse reappeared,

along with a fine spirited stallion she met in the forest. The neighbor

rushed over to say what wonderful news that was. The farmer replied

"You never know." The next day, the farmer's son, while trying to break

the stallion, was thrown and broke his leg. The neighbor, true to form,

said "What a shame about your boy breaking his leg." The farmer, steady

in his unknowing replied "you never know." Shortly thereafter, the

country where the farmer and his neighbor lived went to war and all the

young men in the town were drafted to fight, except the farmer's son who

had a broken leg. The neighbor rejoiced over the young man's good

fortune to avoid the draft, and the farmer replied "you never know..."

Love, Mark
