Demonstrating non-duality

Although no physical demonstration can fully explain a principle, here

is a little trick that helps people understand the general idea of

non-duality.

Take a piece of paper and cut a strip about an inch, (2.5 cm) wide and ten

inches, (25 cm) long. Holding one end, turn the other end over, so you

have a strip with one twist in it.

Now, bring the ends together and secure them with tape, glue or staples.

You have just created a Mobius curve. the piece of paper had two sides, it

was dual. But now, it is one sided. You might wonder how this can be.

Take a pen and begin drawing a line on the paper, start at one point and go

all the way around the loop. Since there is a twist in the loop, you'll

have to fiddle with it a bit to get access to the entire single surface..

Now, when you get back to the starting point, where you began drawing the

line, remove your pen and take the loop apart where it had been joined.

Now, look at both sides, you will see the line on both sides, but you only

drew one line, not two.

For a few moments there, you had a piece of paper with only one side. It

sounds nuts, but to the unaware mind, all truth sounds nuts.

How do we translate this physical example into our own reality? Just as we

turned over the paper at one end, inverting it 180 degrees, to form the

non-dualistic paper, moving into an egoless, non-dual reality requires

going in the opposite direction, 180 degrees different, from what we have

always done.
