Dear Friends,

In "The Tale of Genji" by Murasaki Shikibu, I came across some lines

that I was moved to share with you.

As one small mark of your love, if such there be,

Say no to those who ask if you have seen me.

~Anonymous, Kokinshu 811~

O broom tree of Fuseya in Sonohara,

You seem to be there, and yet I cannot find you.

~Sakanoe Korenori, Shinkokinshu 997~

Are you hidden like the grasses at full tide,

That so often I sigh for you, so seldom see you?

~Sakanoue no Iratsume, Manyoshu 1394~

If they should ask about us, O Know-Nothing-River,

Be true to your name, and merely say: "I wonder."

~Anonymous, Kokinshu 1108

With Love,

Mazie
