Guest guest
Namaste All, I have just got an answer from George Fetherling of the Vancouver Sun, today on why so many are not what they seem. He calls the new Buddhists, 'Nightclub Buddhists'.He says they are growing at a faste rate than serious inquirers. "These are people who have become Buddhist or call themselves that because of the restraints an constraints of the regular religions of Judaism, Christianity, Islam etc. They don't want to be text-bound, so fewer texts means fewer rules, thus an increased ability to make up a personally monogrammed version of living to suit every taste; salad bar religion., or rather spirituality." He says the link between spirituality and being 'holy', has been broken a lot. " Being spiritual doesn't commit you to anything. It just covers your ass and makes you all warm and fuzzy." I agree with him after my experiences with so called Buddhists and spiritual people. Now I understand why they drink alcohol, eat meat and endlessly prattle or quote reams of stuff---'grim reamers'. It is not so much that they want to eliminate the ego but give it more rein in an ersatz, shallow, fashionable spirituality, without any committments to the original 'revelation or guru'. I include the verbal non-dualists in this also. They have found an even easier way of non committment, they can go on all day talking about an egg, without eating it. So now my perplexity about people is clearer. I will no longer consider them 'real and true', but brand name fashion, and I won't interact with them for that only insults their huge selective, intellectual egos. Committment talks, Bullshit walks. Kind like living together, no marriage no committment. Om Nama Sivaya.....Tony.
