>> As for killing animals, i see no sign anyone on this list is

involved in killing animals. <<

Oh well...I wasn't going to say anything more about this, but now I

feel I must. It is difficult, for me anyhow, to step outside of the

cultural/societal context in which my life is embedded. However, the

"small planet after all" emerging reality, among other things, has

brought to my attention the diversity of cultural/societal paradigms.

If I eat meat, though I don't often think about it, eventually, I

believe I must face and accept responsibility for how the meat came

to my mouth. Consequently I am responsible for the killing

of...mostly chickens, the occasional fish and pig, and the very

occasional cow. This is true of everything my cultural/societal

context engages me in or saturates me with or propogandizes me

towards. There are a number of issues I have with what is "fed" to us

via television and all the other media we now have access to. (I won't

get into this because I am sure it would raise another storm.)...

When I was involved in my career, which was social change on a variety

of issues, I worked very hard to encourage activism around the issues

I care about. Ultimately, little changed, except perhaps for the

people who became involved with one another through this process and

whose individual lives were altered. (Over the long haul, there have

been some changes along these fronts, but broad social change, I have

discovered, is a long, slow process.) When I left my career, because

of my health, I had a vague notion that somehow my "work" was going

to be on a more personal level. At the time, I thought this meant I

would go into some kind of thing that would mean working with people,

one on one, rather than in vast groups. Now I realize that it

meant/means working with/on myself. If I object to what the media is

showing me, I can turn off the tv, leave the theatre (which I have

done), delete the email, etc. These are small actions, but for now

they are sufficient. I am only talking about myself, by the way.

Namaste Linda,

Yes one gets to the stage of personal responsibility and realises one

has to change oneself and do the best one can. Do the world a favour

and get realised.....ONS.....Tony.
