To insist that someone must not end their life, if they choose ,is a violation of human rights on an extreme level. One woman who we lived with wanted her daughter to kill her.She ended up in a nursing home for 5 years unable to talk or even move. Her daughter finally asked us to take her in our rental home and after a few months she left her body, free from her unwanted suffering.. I have even planned how I will self extinguish the life force. I shall hire someone in Australia to boat me out to a place with hungry sharks. Then I will cut my wrists and jump in to feed the sharks. I do it that way so there will be no burial or cremation expenses. My wife also feels the same way but does not like my method. Kervokian is on of my idols. I saw him actually take the life of this man who was suffering incredibly on 60 Minutes. His wife and family were very thankful as the man could not ever hardly breath or move and choked on his food. The prison officials will not even let Kervokian talk to the press, but they let McVeigh have press interviews. All the aforesaid is subject to revision if the Universe grants me the fruits of my practice. Yes I will use all the coercive tools that I have to get what I want. I bring this subject up to get other views on the matter and am open to altering my position if convincing arguments appeal to me. Tony, I know exactly what you will offer. Do it anyway. Guest guest
---Hello Alton, I dont think we have met, but you may be surprised to learn that i agree with you in theory. I dont however, consider it suicide. At least not the plans that i have for myself. I am of the opinion that mankind has, and continues on a daily basis to over step himself. I dont think God intended us to be here forever. all living things have a time to be here, to learn what is to be discovered here, and to enjoy life in a physical sense for the experience. we are merely passing through in my opinion, and when we refuse to allow life to complete its natural cycle, ie. the use of machines to maintain a body that no longer functions, we overstep ourselves. it is then that we suffer most because it is not what was intended. personally, the idea of sharks having me for dinner is not appealing if i am awake to "enjoy" the experience. I too have watched people close to me die slowly, but i have also experienced a very painful episode myself that gives me pause. While i would not allow any one to intervene when it was not appropriate to continue to do so, i dont wish for the pain that being eaten alive must entail. i should much perfer to say my proper good byes to those who i would leave behind, and just go to sleep. no dramatics, a nice quiet place, alone or with any of my friends or family who can let me go without making me feel guilty for accepting it so readily. then a traditional native burial, nothing elaborite. personally, i dont enjoy pain. just a personal preference. Guest guest
Dear Gracie: Before I posted the suicide post I asked Gloria if she had any objections, as I did not want to overly offend anyone here. I visited Muriel twice per week for five years and if you saw all those virtually dead people they were keeping alive you would get sick. My wife, Lee did not want to go up there. They are hunched over in wheel chairs unable to do anything at all. They even have some in bed on tubes, totaly unconscious. I understand that in some cultures, if you cannot feed yourself, they let you go to the beyond. I think the amount of pain you will experience when lots of hungry sharks eat you up will last of only 1 second. Dont put any shark repellant on though. Hi Alton, Why the public drama: when not taking drink and food, in relatively few days physical life will be over. It is the way how Jain monks terminate life when becoming a burden to society and there have been reports of cases in Holland where Alzheimer patients were treated equally, in the sense of not supplying drink and food when the patients forgot to ask... There also has been an article in New Scientist once on this "method" and it was emphasized there is very little suffering involved... BTW, refusing to eat and drink and to wish to be left alone, is quite legal... Find a nice cave with a great sight, like there are quite a few here, and have the last practical joke, as it could take several thousand years before the remains are found... Guest guest
Dear Wim, Thanks for that story - it shows that the "goodbye to sentient life" can be conscious and without drama... A "goodbye" that for some happens while the body remains alive... The Drum is remembered well for its typical smell - still in a dark blue package? Guest guest
Dear Jan and Wim; Nice way to go, but I dont have the patience for that so I'll take the sharks. The less patience the longer it takes! That must be one of Murphy's laws. You only have to wait. The end will come by itself. You can do it in your sleep. We won't wake you up when the end is there :-) Promise... :-) Anyway on your way to the sharks, come by here. Too bad that our killer whales don't bite, but I'd love to take a bite out of you, hum yum chomp... Money wise maybe? I wish I was a loan shark... Hey, there's an idea... You know, Alton, we are only nervously stalling you, hee hee hee! Oh, and by the way, I have lots of experience with suicide, not personally obviously, hee hee hee! Actually, it is very hard to synchronize your 'wished life's end' with 'real life's end', if in fact we can use those terms, as in fact there is no end to this. Life... there is no end to it! So the very upheaval made about its functioning - any functioning at all - but concerning animated nobody as there is neither "I" nor "you". Feelings make the illusion of a difference and that they are empty will come as a good whack when they are imagined "real".
