Just an "educated opinion" here based on years of knowing many people

in the mental health system, including one young lady who

successfully killed herself at age 16...

Yes, indeed. But did you not mention other symptoms including "lack

of motivation" and "acting out?"

Yes. The brain chemistry needs to be re-balanced before any other

treatment can be effective in the case of clinical depression. The

psychiatrist acted professionally and in the correct manner for the

given situation.

 

These new antidepressants are so innocuous and harmless compared to

what they used to use say 10-15 years ago... side effects are few, in

some cases nonexistent. SSRI antidepressants do not blur or cloud

thinking in any way, only put the chemistry of the brain back into

balance if it is out of balance.

More-so than a professional (psychiatrist)? Well, it's your

grandson's life and happiness at stake, but the decision is not 'in

my hands'.
