Guest guest
>> Ram Dass, who actually helped start us on our journey, said "Take what they have to offer and run" << Two weeks ago I was very fortunate to attend a retreat to spend time with Shree Maa and Swami Satyananda Saraswati in Issaqua, Washington. I am still absorbed with/by much of what I experienced there. This was a very different experience from others I have had. One thing I remember very well were several questions asked by different people, which had to do with spending time with more than one Guru (holy person, saint, Self-realized being, etc.) and also with leaving a Guru, either to follow another or because the Guru's behavior turns out to be other than what we would choose to emulate. Swami said: "...it is not about creating Guru fan clubs." I really like that one, because I think we in the West are very used to the fan club paradigm. He also said, without making any evaluative comments whatsoever: "...in moving on, we look to the Guru, (Swami then folded his hands reverently, and with a big, enthusiastic smile on his face (he is very dramatic) and we say: THANK YOU SO MUCH. Then he told us about the concept of the Upaguru or Upagurus, which are all the gurus in a long line we may not even be fully aware of (including those we would define as such and any others who have crossed our paths). He even gestured to Shree Maa as being an Upaguru...and then said there is a long long line of upagurus leading from the past into the present and into the time when we reach the Goal. Anyhow, this touched my heart/mind/etc. as very sensible/real/etc. Shanti ~ Linda

Interesting... i live about 7 or 8 miles west of Issaquah. Used to be you would have to go to California to attend any kind of satsang, but the "circuit" is really spreading out all over the country. Quite a few "gurus" swing by this area these days (Nirmala is a regular). Namaste, Omkara / Tim http://coresite.cjb.net P.S... if you're ever in the area again, you're welcome to drop by for tea, or just to say hello :-).
