Guest guest
Hi Tim -- (snip) Actually it isn't cut (there's nobody to cut it), but something else is involved entirely... it has been called "dying while still alive," and some have even referred to a "clinical death" happening (Ramana Maharshi mentions just such an 'experience'). Seen here, it has to do with the root desire (wanting to live, the desire to be) dropping off automatically. Makes sense ... also: If desire to exist drops, so does any desire not to exist or not to be. If any desire not to exist drops, then any identification with not desiring is also dropped ... Call it "dropping dropped" perhaps ... Living is just an activity that occurs, if it does ... Dropping dropped is insight clarified ... All that drops is activity that is baseless and self-contradictory .... > This sutra (1-16) might imply that it is the identification with > Purusa that balances the gunas and aleviates the symptoms of desire > in the one through whom that awareness is being expressed (by > Purusa). The term "balancing the gunas" doesn't make much sense. What does that mean, an equal mix of tamas, rajas and sattva? Also, you said desire is created "by the interplay of the gunas, specifically rajas." Why mention interplay and then specify one particular guna? i am lost on the idea of "balancing" the gunas (doesn't make sense here). What guna will balance the gunas? How will that guna be balanced? Who is there who can identify with Purusa? Perhaps it can be said that the process of identification, which requires perceptions of things and qualities with which identity can be maintained, is released ... If so, such release doesn't allow for concern about maintaining balance or imbalance of gunas... Namaste, Dan
Guest guest
> Who is there who can identify with Purusa? Perhaps it is the other way around. Is not Purusa the 'more real'? Perhaps it could be said that it is Purusa that identifies as all these 'separate' lives.
