Hope some of you may appreciate it too, like a public service announcement. I was wondering why I was getting all these updated privacy policies in the mail in fine print. And since I must get 3-4 offers for credit cards a week, am glad to know how to stop them. I verified all this, this is not a chain letter. A few minutes spent taking care of just the big 3 here, will save you way more time from dealing with the junk and telemarketing calls. I put some URLs for those who want to do more or check it out. The last one tells how to stop just about everything.The four major credit bureaus in the US. will beallowed, starting July 1, to release your credit info,mailing addresses, phone numbers..... to practically anyone whorequests it. If you would like to 'opt out' of this release ofinfo, you can call 1-888-567-8688. It only takes a coupleof minutes to do, and you can take care of anyone elsein the household while making only one call, you'lljust need to know their social security number. Be sureto listen closely, the first opt out is only for two years,make sure you wait until they prompt you to press '3' onyour keypad to opt out for good. One call works for all 4 companies! OPT-OUT - 1-888-567-8688 Your credit reports are being screened without your knowledge or permission. The purpose of this screening is to market products and services to you through various mass mailings (junk mail)! You have the right to prohibit information contained in your credit report from being used in any transaction that is not initiated by you. You can protect your privacy and stem the flow of junk mail to your mailbox by opting out of these screenings. Call the automated opt-out number for the major credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, Trans Union) 1-888-567-8688. http://www.experian.com/consumer/help/glossary/l-q.html Stop Junk Mail (4 million tons a year in USA) Too much junk to deal with individually: Start by sending a postcard or letter to DMA Mail Preference Service, PO Box 9008, Farmingdale NY 11735-9008. For up to five years, this will stop mail from all member organizations that you have not specifically ordered products from. This option may stop catalogs and promotions you would have liked to receive.
