Hi Jan, Is there a difference between adaptation, compromise and passivity? Nasrudin was once in the Land of Fools. Realising that he was none too bright himself he feared that to survive he would have to, 'act stoopid'. He knew that too much of an act and the act would become real. Therefore he approached the wisest person in Fools Land (which happened to be the person with the biggest mouth). 'Friend,' shouted Nasrudin, 'I am a stranger in these parts, what should I do?' 'Well,' said the Wise Fool, shouting even louder, 'Try and criticise and find fault with the wisest people you can.' 'Why should I not support and bolster any good I find?' asked Nasrudin. 'Ah Ha, I see by your criticism of me, you are already learning . . .' >This story might be illustrative: >When having to be transported by ambulance to the hospital >last Sunday, the police kept the majority of my papers like ID >card and driver's licence - although i was the injured victim. >And it's virtually impossible to get them back - hence no other >option than reporting them "lost" at the local police, getting a >written statement for that and then, getting new cards - something >even the Belgian ambassador resorted to... > >Moral: no moral in the Canaries... >Rules: Self-reliance is the only virtue. > >Jan :-) an interesting story - and no doubt a difficult experience :-( I am reminded of the words Guru Gnu WildeBeast who saith: 'Find and rely on others virtue as if it is your own' (Guru Gnu was tragically eaten by some lions who felt his sermon on 'Vegetarianism for Predators' was inappropriate - his last words were, "This is *MY* body . . . ") >Personally, I am grateful to Harsha and the list moderators for attempting >to make this sangha a safe place. I appreciate their concern for others and >their willingness and courage to take abuse because of their concern. There >isn't much of this in the world. > >Joyce Well said. It is a safe place. It is polite and civil and it has rules, just as an ashram asks for shoes to be removed. Is it so difficult to understand or relate to the necessity? [shrug] I am reminded of people saying, 'Yes it may be gravity but why does it always pull us back to earth?' People are funny . . . :-) Lobster wearing 46 pairs of shoe ============ For those interested in sharing their knowledge and practice of meditation in a non-partisan format we have started the eXo-biology meditation course http://pages.britishlibrary.net/lobster/exxo/
