Guest guest
Hi guys, It is fascinating watching escapism at work, where people think they are happy being entertained or being drunk. It seems very surface hiding deep samskaras in the unconscious. I looked at some of the locals in the hinterland away from gringo mexico and it is a different state of mind altogether. It reveal great unhappiness that escapism is so prevalent. I am happy. ONS...Tony,

HI Tony....escapism is the constant state...if we are not 'within' we are using 'whatever' in the escaping of THAT.....some of it just looks more obvious...no? I have often thought that no matter the lifestyle...the personality or the dysfunction or trauma of a person's life...(me included) we have at least mastered "The great escape"....) We can say at least we have that mastered...Even a 'spiritual' quest can be an escape if we have not visited all that we are with love.... Hugs...Syena. Guest guest
Tony, did you ever read Malcolm Lowry's _Under the Volcano?_ It is a gut wrenching gorgeous terrible novel that takes place in Mexico, covering a single long day of an alcoholic American man immersed in the terrible hell of his escape, into Mexico and drinking. It takes place on the Day of the Dead. It is a quite beautiful book, this one complete masterpiece produced by a depressed, alcoholic man who had an otherwise bleak life and committed suicide years later. I read something the other day about how the misery brought on with spiritual awakening is unavoidable and can be great indeed, but is as nothing compared to the misery of ignoring the work to be done, escaping it or putting it off. Your post resonated with my thoughts about the great amount of energy many of us spend at times in our lives trying to escape facing the spiritual and other challenges before us.
