Guest guest
For me, guru = "from darkness to light" ... and understood Qabalistically "infinite light that includes darkness" ... Aaah Dan, thou didst remind me of an old favorite quote from grad school days of yore... One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. -- C.G. Jung Hi Glo -- Yes, it's a nice quote. The darkness is utterly and purely aware. It's when viewed from a position apart, it seems as if unconscious. If viewed from a position of "good", it seems "bad" ... Jung perhaps thought someone was there who had to work to make the darkness conscious. The "guru" shows that the darkness is who I am, thus "bringing" light by "doing nothing" .... -- or you could say "making" darkness light -- as is ... awareness all along, and no one there to understand it, or make it become something.. This is light that includes darkness, neither a duality nor nonduality ... peace that includes war, awareness that includes the conscious and unconscious, truth that includes fiction, wholeness that includes partialization -- totality that passes understanding ... I haven't wanted to complain before this of the many times you have crashed my computer with your power surges, because I like them. However, the smoke alarm never has gone off in a power failure before, so please watch you don't set the house afire. I don't think my insurance covers you. Guest guest
Dan,Glo and friends, You just helped me realize the answer to a question that has occupied my mind for years. If enlightenment is, as it says, great light, why is Kali, the Mother of us all, supreme Maya, the creative matrix, always depicted as Black. You touch on some of the reasons here in your 2 posts. Kali is that which acts in darkness, and is experienced by most as instinct, blind emotional reaction, the appetites, etc.. It is only in her role as Guru or YogaMayi that she presents herself as Siva, consciousness and light. Yoga, like Jungian Psychology, seeks to make "the darkness conscious". I recognize Dan that this isn't the idea that you are portraying, but only represents what it tripped in me. yours in the bonds, eric , Daniel Berkow <berkowd@u...> wrote: > > >For me, guru = "from darkness to light" ... > > and understood Qabalistically "infinite light that includes darkness" ... > > > >Aaah Dan, thou didst remind me of an old favorite quote from grad school > >days of yore... > > > >One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by > >making the darkness conscious. > >-- C.G. Guest guest
Glo: (snip) Dan will probably remind us none of this is real, but as long as our imagination is playing with imagery and concepts..these are pretty cool ones. Dan (confirming Glo's expectation that he will predictably defy her expressed expectation ;-): All of this is real. If any of it could be unreal, there would have to be an unreal person, who could really say that it is unreal. Therefore, it is *all* real ... Guest guest
Someone asked [[if enlightenment is, as it says, great light, why is Kali, the Mother of us all, supreme Maya, the creative matrix, always depicted as Black.]] ** The 'light' of enlightenment is not 'light' as we commonly know it (as in a lightbulb, a light color, light of the sun, etc). Kali & Krishna both mean, "black". However, the black in Kali's name further denotes 'time'. Her blackness represents 'formlessness'. She is the 'void' from which was birthed Brahma, Vishu & Rudra (creation, preservation & destruction). Her power is not restricted to darkness & death. For example, She is also known as Bhadra Kali, meaning, 'Auspicious Kali'. Kali Herself speaks to us in the /Kulachudamani/. She says: ______ "I am Great Nature, consciousness, bliss, the quintessence, devotedly praised. Where I am, there is no Brahma, Hara, Shambhu or other devas, nor is there creation, maintenance or dissolution. Where I am there is no attachment, happiness, sadness, liberation, goodness, faith, atheism, guru, or disciple. ... All things .. are my parts, born from my being. .. I, Lalita, become of teh nature of nirvana. ... If I am known, what need is there for revealed scriptures and sadhana? If I am unknown, what use for puja & revealed text? I am the essense of creation, manifeste as woman, intoxicated with sexual desire .. even given this, my true nature still remains secret." ______ Om Santi ...
