Guest guest
Reference [[bhagavan Ramana: .. Dattatreya had twenty-four gurus : the five elements, earth, water, etc.]] Wim asked of Papa Swan [[Could you list the twenty four gurus of Dattatreya starting with the five elements, ]] ** If I may interject .. I will summize these 'gurus' to be Asuddha Tattvas, or the magnetic energy (Odic). I say this because, there are 24 Asuddha Tattvas. Combined, they make up the 'world' of asuddha maya (asuddha = impure). (Asuddha Maya being the realm of astral and physical planes in which all souls function through either manomaya, pranamaya, or annamaya kosas - depending on their level of embodiment.) These tattvas are: prakrita, buddhi, ahamkara, manas, stotra, tvak, chakshu, rasana, ghrana, vak, pani, pada, payu, upastha, shabda, sparsa, rupa, rasa, & gandha. The remainder are the five elements: akasa, vayu, tejas, apas & prithivi. Om Santi ... Yogini Sakti
Guest guest
Now, could you please, translate those 24 words, whether vaguely or exactly into English. Appreciated. By the way I do not believe that "asuddha" means "impure" in the western sense of "dirty" as having picked up impurities . We have a similar thing in English between expressions like subtle and gross (not subtle) and any nuances in between. Gross actually does not mean dirty for the same reason that impure does not mean dirty. Love, Wim > Reference [[bhagavan Ramana: .. I was under the impression that most here - or at least those involved in this conversaion - would know the meaning of these words. Asuddha Tattvas: - prakrita / primal nature, that from which all tattvas are 'born'. - buddhi / judgment, intellect, discrimination. - ahamkara / sense of "I", egoism, individuality. - manas / instinctive mind, link between outer & inner faculties. - stotra / hearing (ears). - tvak / touching (skin). - chakshu / seeing (eyes). - rasana / tasting (tongue). - ghrana / smelling (nose). - vak / speech (voice). - pani / grasping (hands). - pada / walking (feet). - payu / excretion (anus). - upastha / procreation (genitals). - shabda / sound. - sparsa / feel. - rupa / form. - rasa / taste. - gandha / odor. The five elements: - akasa / space, or ether. - vayu / air. - tejas / fire. - apas / water. - prithivi / earth. [[by the way I do not believe that "asuddha" means "impure" in the western sense of "dirty" as having picked up impurities.]] ** You are correct. Hindi does not exactly translate (as many languages do not) mostly due to the spiritual aspects & definitions (in this circumstance). "Impure" in Hindu carries a different connectation then it does in English. Om Santi ... Yogini Sakti
