The saying is actually: “Hij kreeg een klap van de malle molen.”

or in English “He got whacked by a wacky windmill.”

Dear Wim,

Thanks for clarifying this - i don't even have a Dutch dictionary here!

Hence my knowledge of Dutch has decreased and my way of expressing

in Dutch could be labeled as archaic!:)

But there is more to "chasing windmills of the mind": although "knowing

who i am" often is pictured as a "goal" it isn't, it "only" enables what could be

called "proper functioning". And the framework determining that is "in the mind"...

Without such a framework determining behavior (responsiveness), such a one could

be called "absolutely free but lost for society"... So "keep them running" :)

Jan

This is quite hilarious Wim.... :) thank you for sharing a bit of your

youth. :) Enjoy some more. *sighs

Send the poem again Jan.....

The simple poem that reminded me of children's laughter, Wim's memory

of a childhood stunt.... These things worth dwelling on......

No analyzing metaphors for me to day..... Where is your Island Jan?

Any more dare devil stunts, Wim?

Feeling more nostaligic myself today.... Looking at three cowbells

hanging on my wall.... My dead grandmother's door bell.... I love the

sound they make together as they ring whenever someone opens the door

at her house... She is gone now, but those cowbells when I ring them,

bring her close to me. Do I miss her, no...... but it reminds me of

happy moments in my grandmother's kitchen frosting cookies, and

baking pies..... and thanksgiving dinners.

I'm thankful for my step grandmother who treated me like her own. I

have her cowbells and her Thanksgiving china ware to remind me of

her..

More memories to share?

Hugs to all today.

Wim:

Excellent. I like that… how you say that, “enabling proper

functioning. Would you be willing to say more about that?

The analogy that comes to the mind is that of the immune system.

Within certain limits, it handles whatever threatens

the continuation of physical functioning. When the limits are

exceeded, the quality of the system will determine the

"if" and "when" of recuperation. "Proper functioning" means here "not getting ill"

The immune system is highly adaptable. So is the human behavior - it

will direct itself towards happiness, whatever

the circumstances. As long as the individual is happy, no limits are

exceeded. When knowing "who i am", those limits

are widened - so functioning is improved, knowing "where" true happiness comes from.

Jan:

And the framework determining that is "in the mind"...

Without such a framework determining behavior (responsiveness), such a one could

be called "absolutely free but lost for society"...

Wim:

“It’s just a job, ma’m.” said a shepherd to my

peaceful…!”

“It’s just a job, ma’m.”

Of course - he cannot compare his job to another one :)

The occasional shepherd i see in the mountains doesn't like the

job: low pay, hot in the sun - for him, i am crazy, hiking :))

Jan:

So "keep them running" :)

Wim:

You cannot mean, I hope, “keeping the windmills of the mind

running?” Nor can you mean, I expect, “to keep the

chasers chasing?”J

Actually, this is so neat, at one point I - being a real Dutch boy and

wanting to show off in front of a bunch of other young Dutch lads

(“schooiers”) – I attempted to stop the mindwill

(Oops! but no oops! heeheehee… that cracked me up, J) I

attempted to stop the slowly turning windmill that stood in the

polder close to the town where I lived (Delft), I could actually

touch the “wieken” or sails as they turned. I did grab

one of them and… had to hang on with dear life… until I

HAD to let go and fell into a pool of mud and cow dung (modderpoel).

That is what happens if you try to stop “one thought chasing

another one” Ha, I am having fun with this thread.

Love,

Wim

I don't mean "keep them running" as usual - when the potential for

automatic thinking no longer exists, responses are spontaneous -

freed from the dross of " I & you" and all opinions regarding that.

Yet to respond spontaneously, some mills have to keep running in

order to enable such functioning - one isn't conscious of "what

happens under the hood". When nevertheless not happy with the

situation, that means limits are exceeded and "knowing who i am"

results in becoming aware of what hinders (blocks) happiness. As

awareness at this "stage" is power (Shakti), the blocks burn out -

until none are left... But (of course) this isn't always what can be

observed - one might say nature abhors

to transform mind-bodies in whom she "invested" much, into those, no

longer susceptible to the vicissitudes of their species :)

Love,

Jan

up with the function of “such a one” in this world, say a

bodhisattva, avatar, crazy Zen monk, a Ramana kind of being. Such a

being’s function gets to be so highly glamorized,

romanticized…

So I meant to compare my wife’s glamorizing of the shepherd

function to the glamour around the function of “such a

one.”

I have also been told, “You must be so happy, so satisfied, it

is so peaceful here…!” and I found myself answering,

“It’s just a job, ma’m.” :-)

Love, Wim

Well, i would have ignored the questioner. Consider this:

Who writes a love song on one's body

Who dedicates a poem to the air

Who sings the glory of water

'Normality' - not a subject

But when it comes to "That"

Love songs abound

Poems abound

The glory is sung

Although there is but "That"

The most 'normal' as there is nothing else.

'That' is the subject as long as something is felt 'missing'

Love,

Jan

This is quite hilarious Wim.... :) thank you for sharing a bit of your

youth. :) Enjoy some more. *sighs Send the poem again Jan.....

wind mill spin mind

thought thrill feel - blind!

windless mindful

thought dies - feel too!

no thought no feel

peace - yes - and real!

The simple poem that reminded me of children's laughter, Wim's memory

of a childhood stunt.... These things worth dwelling on...... No

analyzing metaphors for me to day..... Where is your Island Jan? Any

more dare devil stunts, Wim?

The island is Tenerife - one of the Canaries.

The ongoing building frenzy is regarded 'unhealthy' by

many - even a friend owning a shop in satellite TV longs

for a worldwide recession to stop that...

In this part of the world, only dial-up connection and some chats

gave rise to a few poems on the issue - perhaps this ambiguous

one can bring a smile on your face :)

No matter how I frown

The line goes down

No matter cause it is

I feel like Dis

Connection clown

It happened now to both of us

Con acting is a lot of fuzz

Love,

Jan
