Guest guest
I regularly see an energy worker who has suggested that I not make distinctions between what is 'mine' and what is not, but treat it all to something like the buddhist tonglin (sp?) practice, an all-encompassing compassionate clearing. I would be interested in hearing how others deal with this kind of experience. How does one build the kind of psychic strength that keeps one balanced and grounded while still being open and receptive to the emotional pain of others? Jill Hi Jill, Yes, I do tonglen when this arises. (Especially in the breathwork that I do regularly.) The tonglen transforms the energy, releasing it somehow. It feels like destructive energies are transformed into love and I'm some sort of conduit for it. The trick for me is to allow it all to flow through without any getting stuck, and I find I know a limit of some sort, and I stop doing it when it's about to become overwhelming. I focus on opening and allowing and the exercise seems to open up energy channels in me. I also focus on my lower chakras and maintain a connection to ground. For quite awhile, I focussed primarily on the heart and higher chakras, and I think the lower chakras were blocked and I got unbalanced. Once I realized the need to stay grounded, it became possible to do so, by maintaining an even attention on all of the major chakras and allowing the process itself to adjust things as needed. The tonglen is marvelous! For anyone who wants to know more about it, I recommend Pema Chodron. Love, Mark
Guest guest
Thank you, Mark, for your description of your tonglin practice. That is really helpful. I have read one Pema Chodron book; do you have one you recommend that addressed this practice?
