Guest guest
Do you remember the story of Nicodemus, who was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, going secretly to consult Jesus? Who said to him, "...unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." And Nicodemus asked him, "How can a man be born again when he is old? Can he enter his mother's womb again and be born?" Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I tell you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. "Don't wonder that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes, so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." Nicodemus asked, "How can this be??" Jesus said, "Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you don't understand this?? The word used here for "Spirit" is "pneuma," which meant wind, breath, spirit... You'll find the same thing in other old languages... and I think they probably mean Kundalini too. The Tibetan term for the vital forces is "the winds," and the term for Kundalini is "the wind in the central channel." Do you remember the day of Pentecost when the fire descended on the disciples? And the controversy (_Book of Acts_) about when to give "the baptism of the Spirit"? They were giving Shaktipat!! >and share your expiriences with me that I might learn . It's good to learn from others' experiences, but the best teacher you'll ever find is the teacher within you - your own inner guide, spiritual guru, High Self... Listen for the voice of Spirit within you, and find your teacher. Wonderful Dharma, truly wonderful..... Thank you so much for sharing those passages.... when read with a different light there is so much more to see.... It may be time I return to some of those old passages and reread them, and see what they tell me now that I see things differently. How are you btw??? Guest guest
Hi Lynette, > Wonderful Dharma, truly wonderful..... Thank you so much for sharing >those passages.... when read with a different light there is so much more >to see.... It may be time I return to some of those old passages You say "those old passages" because you've heard them over and over and over, and it gets to be Yadada yadada yadada in your ears. )) That's why it helps to use a different translation than you've known, or even find several different translations and compare them. Those books are the story of a man's life - mostly just a few years of his life - and what he taught. Try to discard what you've been told he said and did, and read to find out what he really did and said. The book by John is the one most loved by mystics. It's the most gnostic of the gospels, and to me it seems closest to the spirit of Jesus. Some gnostic gospels have been discovered that you might be interested in looking into. We think the gospels included in the Bible were edited... those gnostic gospels may contain material that was cut out of the canonical books. >How are you btw??? I'm fine, thanks, honey. Hope everything is well with you. Love, Dharma

"how much difference is there between right and wrong...." -Lao Tzu .....the teachings of all great teachers are 'edited' or re-interpreted endlessly....the mystery of the divine is that it is continuously manifesting itself in endlessly new ways....the theological developments between the various religions are remarkably similar and in fact parallel one another....consider, if you are interested the arise of paternalism/asceticism within the great religions....look at the role of woman in the new testament, for example....i specifically recommendment you read closely the four accounts of "the empty tomb'....women are progressively denigrated partly in reaction to the temple prostitution common in greece and rome and partially under the influence of the male dominated culture out of which Peter and Paul arose and partially as an attempt to address the duality between the carnal and the divine....for a refreshing point of view on the role of women read the gnostic Gospel of Thomas.....today we still struggle with the duality between the material and spiritual world....Nisaragadatta is one of the first to turn his back on the tradition of ascetic and chaste monasticism and return to his wife and family....i constantly remind myself of the words of St. Benedict....give us the search for salvation (denial of the self), it is selfish....within advaita, i am always reminded of arjuna.....enlightenment occurs through devotion service to others.....i hope this rambling response makes some sort of sense....non-duality means to be in the world but not of the world to quote Jesus.....all the various attempts at re-interpreting divine writings are an attempt to resolve the duality that language creates between the material and the spiritual world.....neither masculine nor feminine, neither material nor spiritual, neither self nor not-self, neither orthodox nor heretical but in what lies beyond even these the divine can be discovered endlessly unfolding itself to us and humbling us into silence, wonder and awe....in short, beware of those who proclaim themselves to be teachers, they are out to sell you something.....the canonical books got there because someone decided that what someone's thought or felt was either wrong or ugly or both.....enlightenment is progressive.....or as white wolfe once said to mark....the heresies that men do leave are hated most by those they did deceive.....i follow the middle way....ananda, sat, chit......^^~~~~~ further up and further in, white wolfe
