I remember having experienced similar feelings, many times... but the "answer" lies in realizing there is no answer (and eventually, seeing there is no need for one!). Instead of trying to escape this feeling when it occurs, observe and examine it closely. Go more deeply into it, if possible. "Despair" is a kind of self-sustaining loop... it is a condition seeking to be rid of itself. If remaining with it long enough, sometimes the loop itself can be observed, then "despair" is transcended.
