Pride

Understanding is never

more easily poisoned

than by pride,

or more easily approached

than with abject humility.

The problem lies

in the nature of "discourse"

which banishes the silence

in which humility is found

and raises the specter

of its necessity to our pride.

Thus those who understand

remain silent in their humility,

while those who speak

are prone to the corruption

of their understanding

with pride.

The latter, of course,

would include anyone
