Guest guest
>From the poems of Hafiz one can make out that he was in full mystical union with God. His poems are ecstatic utterances of his non-dual state. Hafiz does not give you directions as to how you too can achieve this enlightenment. However, like Rumi's poems, his poems stir your heart in such a way that your heart becomes more receptive. If you have been lucky enough to have had a glimpse of Reality than his poems are even more meaningful. Hafiz Would you think it odd if Hafiz said, "I am in love with every church And mosque And temple And any kind of shrine Because I know it is there That people say the different names Of the One God." Would you tell your friends I was a bit strange if I admitted I am indeed in love with every mind And heart and body. O I am sincerely Plumb crazy About your every thought and yearning And limb Because, my dear, I know That it is through these That you search for Him 'I heard God Laughing - Renderings of Hafiz' by Daniel Ladinsky ------------------------------ WHO WROTE ALL THE MUSIC Why is it now That I come to you like a humble servant Willing to feed you brilliant words and love From my own sacred mouth and hands, Willing to say, "I am sorry, I am sorry for all your pain"? It is because when God Fully revealed Himself in me I saw that it was Hafiz Who wrote all the music you have been playing. I saw it was Hafiz Who wrote all your notes of sadness, But also etched and gave you Every ecstatic wince of joy your face, body, And heart has ever known. Okay my dear, You have stumbled enough in the earth's sweet dance, You have paid all your dues Many times. Now let's get down to the real reason Why we sit together and breathe And begin the laughing, the divine laughing, Like great heroic women And magnificent Strong men. ("The Gift" - versions of Hafiz by Daniel Ladinsky) ------------------- LOVE IS THE FUNERAL PYRE Love is The funeral pyre Where I have laid my living body. All the false notions of myself That once caused fear, pain, Have turned to ash As I neared God. What has risen From the tangled web of thought and sinew Now shines with jubilation Through the eyes of angels And screams from the guts of Infinite existence Itself. Love is the funeral pyre Where the heart must lay Its body. ("The Gift" - versions of Hafiz by Daniel Ladinsky) ------------------ LAUGHING AT THE WORD TWO Only That Illumined One Who keeps Seducing the formless into form Has the charm to win my Heart. Only a Perfect One Who is always Laughing at the word Two Can make you know Of Love.
