Guest guest
>> Lets have a look at your picture again. You are wearing spiritual dress, indicating religion--dualistic. You are wearing a japamala indication you do japa to a form--dualistic. You are wearing the vaishnava tilaka on your forehead, which indicates again dualism, or worship of vishnu or whatever. Like the Hare Krishna's do, they are also dualistic vaishnavas. << Hello Tony, all ~ I have just surfaced once again, from the focus I have had on my move to NM (also my daughter visited for three weeks, which was another, very wonderful focus for my attention). It puzzles me and saddens me to once again, come to a satsangha and find criticism and attack. In the name of nondualism, would Ramana Maharshi have criticized anyone for wearing the clothing of a devotee or for doing japa? I have read his words, and he advocates worship, japa, etc. as useful, if a person finds it helpful, and until it is no longer needed, while acknowledging all the while that Truth abides in the Self. It is my experience that the Self that is the Divine Ground of all things, while being One and Ineffeble, also is dramatically and extravagantly creative. Look at all the garments the Self wears. I am a garment. You are a garment. Jody is a garment. The cottonwood trees in my yard are garments. The river that flows past my house is a garment. The feather I find in my path is a garment. My dog, Pepper, is a garment. The tomatos on the windowsill are garments. And more than garments, we/they are direct expressions. (Just go find and look a bit at Mu Chi's painting, "Six Persimmons.") The raimnent of the Self is infinite. When I do puja, light a candle before a picture of any of my revered "teachers," sing a song, or fall on my knees in the golden grass, overwhelmed by the majesty and presence, I am communicating/communing with this Self. I am, as Don Juan put it once to Carlos Casteneda, "the teakettle whistling in agreement on the stove." I would go and find a quote to back up what I am saying, since virtually ever "teacher" or "master" or "guru" I bother paying attention to says these same things... that the forms are vehicles and eventually they drop away. However, at this point, I am more inclined to quote another source: "What's all this bickering and arguing about (wh)oo killed (wh)oo? (it's essential to get the british accent in) This is supposed to be a happy time." ("Monty Python and the Holy Grail"). Guest guest
Hi LInda, Welcome back! It is good to see you here again. I was thinking of you yesterday--finally hanging that picture of Amma you sent me-- and wondering when you might pop up again. The thread was between Jody and I on non dualism etc. In light of that I analysed his dress, no offence meant. Just pointing out the religious duality represented in his dress. This was fair comment considering the thread or debate.....Send me our Ms Dressup gear for analysis its free.......ONS......Tony.
