Brown), sharwebb, druout *"MBTI Poll" survey of participants reported August 24-31, 2001* Many thanks to everyone who participated in the "look alike" Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) located at http://www.halonline.com/psych/. So we understand that this interaction was a fun thing to do, rather than anything formal. ***Many, many heartfelt Thanks!! to Hillary, and Sharon Webb, for gathering profiles and engaging participants from their respective Lists!! :-))*** ********************** Our basic goal of this exploration was: Suzanne to Eheshare List: "In the pulse of taking a short form, a fun five minute "preference indicator" on these four dichotomous points, we are simply catching tallies of preferences over about 40 questions - to share with each other - to understand better our group dynamics and profile. We are also interested in learning more about the "who" who join on-line exceptional human experience discussion groups." Also, some people have been retested after a major life and/or exceptional experience, and already have a document of their "before" experience with the MBTI originally used. Results show that profiles along the four scales can and do often (but not all the time) change in more or less intensity along a single letter, and moreover, sometimes even to "flip" into another side (of a dichotomous letter) all together. Theoretically, and across a factual sample of these kinds of before-after profiles, this may show that folks who have had major life (and/or EE) switches and integrate (EHE) them, are often more facile to offer discussion/ feedback/ talk with others and be comfortable with being in another's shoes. This is particuarly true when we look at the inner 2 factors of the letters in our profile: the inner S/N and T/F matrix. About those the pointers to our inner matrix, E/I and J/P: For these labels, contrary to popular meaning, they are considered "orientations" in the outer world and also have secondary meanings. That is, the J and P points to whether we would rather be decisive about self and world or perceive more about self and world... a choice within a choice, so to speak. The E/I tells us a little more about where we prefer to give our best: to outside to others or keep our best to ourself, our inner world. So, even a MBTI scale can be and is very complex. Like many other indicators, experiences, they can be as deep or as surface as we choose to understand them. Within that 4-letter profile, there is a possibility of 16 types. And within those types, there are degrees of slight to strong preferences. Reflecting our uniqueness and our similarities, and where we overlap each other. I felt this was important to say at the beginning, because there does seem to be some concern in the groups that "Judging" means "judgemental of others". It simply is a way of describing which we prefer: to "make decisions about self and our world (the "other" qualifies as world as well) via the factor of Thinking or Feeling." With Perception, we prefer to capture information either by Sensing or iNtuition. The Extrovert/ Introvert scale tells us which of the inner factors/ matrix we prefer to hold close to us and what/ how we prefer to share. This study, is relevant to all EEer's and EHE'ers because it MAY be a way for us to tap into our own inner changes, shifts (before-after) along the EHE process. Further, it may show in these befores and afters, how our views of "other" and the outer world might shift. Depending on our tasks at hand, we are certainly able to float across as needed, in many cases. But if there is any question, I often ask: if you took this profile as a child, what would you have figured? And after answering these profiles as a child, recalling, where do we catch our changes, particularly after those types of experiences? EHEs, in particular, can be life/ perspective shifting. ******************** List information shared about the groups who participated: The EHE Network was founded by Rhea A. White and its web discussion List EHEshare started in mid-2000, includes 80 members. The List is moderated by Palyne Gaenir and Anne Kahn (on temporary leave). "The Exceptional Human Experience Network, Inc. (EHEN) is an educational, research, and information resource organization studying all types of anomalous (out of the ordinary) experiences. Because these experiences are primarily subjective, scientists tend to ignore them. They do not fit into today's scientific theory, and our culture typically does not have a way to understand and deal with them. People who have these types of experiences are often not believed, or are considered odd or strange. We take a very different approach. We view these types of experiences as potential starting points for positive, personal, life-enriching, and even life-changing growth. We believe that by valuing these experiences in new ways, and sharing them (even anonymously) with other experiencers, we all gain meaningful insights into ourselves and our world. When these insights occur and we find a way to grow in a way that enables us to integrate and internalize them, what was an anomaly becomes an Exceptional Human Experience, or EHE." The Kundalini-Gateway List includes 552 members and is moderated by Mystress Angelique Serpent. List description: "Originally established as the Kundalini-l, June 1996. This list is for the free exchange of information, advice and friendship among those interested in, undergoing, or in any way involved with the awakening of Kundalini energy. By the very nature of the phenomena, such a process touches upon every aspect of life. As a result, this list is set up to be a forum in which list members should feel able to post openly on any subject which is related to this topic. "Where two or more are ... Pulse includes 60 members and was founded and is moderated by Sharon. She notes that "Pulse is more than a list however. In it's third year now, Pulse is a closed group of predominately Seth material readers who are interested in online metaphysical energy "exercises." We have around sixty members and meet twice a week online for two hour sessions. When we began Pulse only two of us channeled. Now more than half do. A large percentage of members are kundalini active. About half of those became K active since the inception of Pulse." Sacred Kundalini List description: " moderated by Maureen has 206 members. This list encompasses the higher octaves of the Kundalini spiritual awakening with its beauties, potentials and mysteries. Inspiring, (but not too syrupy) stories are welcome as also, because Spirit is joyful, an occasional joke." List notes: " has 448 members and Harsha moderates this one. This spiritual discussion group is an open Satsang and is blessed by Sri Ramana Maharshi, the great Jnani Sage of Arunachala. a is in the best tradition of a joyous spiritual fellowship for facilitating the Recognition of the Eternal Reality that is One's Own Self. 'I Am That!' This is the uncompromising, simple, and yet Radical Truth proclaimed in a variety of ways by the ancient and modern Sages of Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, and Taoism. In Advaita Vedanta, the highest teaching ..." Hillary notes: There are at least 75 discussion groups today that focus on Kundalini. ********************* Type (temperament) Indicators from participant volunteers were gathered and tallied by Hillary, Sharon, and Suzanne from their respective groups between August 24- August 31, 2001. The http://www.halonline.com/psych version of "short-form" MBTI was utilized for participant convenience, a quick turn around of results, and a common point of reference for discussion. Some helpful, basic background FAQ information about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) may be found at: http://www.mbti-mbti.com/. This includes succinct definitions for each of the 16 type combinations and each of the four letters that comprise your type. That book that can be found in most public libraries, where there are 2-3 pages of information regarding each temperament profile and a wealth of information about the history, various factors and relationships. In my simple search of keyword "MBTI" using just the Excite Search, I found over 2000 websites. Many have their own versions of MBTI forms and information. The more lengthy, statistically tested over a wide population, MBTI questionnaire for adults (Form G) includes 126 questions. It is largely based on Jung's theory that people could be identified by their different - and equally valuable - preferences for viewing and understanding the world, and themselves. Briggs and Myers were the mother-daughter team who first adopted Jung's theory to create a questionnaire that could be useful to people across a wide field of applications, such as organizational communications, career decisions, relationships, time management, group dynamics, and so on. References including Consulting Psychologists Press (CPP) and Center for Applications of Psychological Type (CAPT) in any search for information, as well as Keirsey's books, Jungian psychchology provide good sources of background information.
