Guest guest
Dear Jen: I could not possibly have a view that would be pertinent to another person about suicide but here goes. The Catholic view that it is unforgivable is pretty lightweight. That makes God about as bad as The Devil in my book. Chemically imbalanced people have been given the short straw in opportunity and will suffer eternal Hell because of it. Doesn't feel right. If I could start the Western culture over again I would not have belief in Heaven or Hell with one life to decide. I would have reincarnation guiding our society. The reason is that today the idea that reward and punishment to guide people about how to act with each other increases intolerance by stimulating fear. The idea that you will be reborn with circumstances designed to get it right allows for a better climate of wanting to get it right. If you indiscriminately killed Native Americans in the last lifetime you might be born into a life where some group wants to kill you just because of the group you belong to. If educated in reincarnation you might, in this life of persecution, understand that you have a challenge to face to learn a lesson you need to know. So you would end the cycle by not hating the people who are after you. If you do not learn the lesson you might continue to hate the group in this lifetime and kill any member of it indiscriminately thinking you have justification to do it. As far as suicide is concerned, in another lifetime the challenge that caused it in this one would still have to be met. I just think it is a better way to run a society, not that I to ideas about reincarnation as descriptive of the mystery of life and death. Guest guest
Dear Jen, As a survivor of a deliberate attempt to leave life, it suffices to say that it was strange and painful, having to continue life, especially, having been "torn out" of a NDE which was most peaceful. As one can take leave from life only once, continuation was difficult because the reasons to leave life remained unchanged but the incentive (to leave) had been emptied. Yet this has been the most useful "act" in an entire life as (what i didn't know) this equals unconditional surrender. What that meant became clear though - a "dead one" cannot die again - hence the potential to fear is rendered ineffective and what often takes a lifetime or more just took some 8 months. When unhappy and upon contemplating, coming to the conclusion that sentient life itself is a pain, give up both pleasure and pain - act like someone "already" dead, the silent witness. That will "deliver" what sentient life cannot... Peace, Jan
Guest guest
Dear Mazie, Perhaps you know, after haven woken up, that deep dreamless sleep is rather peaceful... In the NDE, there was that peace, no thoughts, no feelings, no sound. Only sight had remained, it had become freed from matter and was "hanging" somewhere in the universe. The sight was awe-inspiring and would have stopped all thoughts and feelings would there have been left. Only when taken out of coma, i realized that nothing "terrestrial" could match that. It was so "far away" from everyday life that there was no hope ever to "realize" such peace during life. Well, that view has proved to be wrong Peace, Jan
