If you read the biographies of many ancient and modern yogis and saints like Milarepa and others, you will see that in some way or another, life broke them all. That life broke them so completely that it left no legs for them to stand on at all. Many had to crawl for a long time. Perhaps it is a means used by Shakti to help some discover devotion in their hearts. I am sure there are many members of the sangha like that.
