Guest guest Posted November 22, 2001 Report Share Posted November 22, 2001 Hello, Several of my friends and myself noticed a strange behaviour of our computer. It doesnt want to shut down. And it launches programs when we start for example Internet Explorer or . When we stop the program it will start all over again. Is it a virus ? This took place on Windows 98 and 2000. So it is not an internal glitch. Anyone noticed the same thing ? Then it would indicate hacker-activity. If it happens offline as well, it means the system has become instable - then there is no choice but to find and repair version conflicts, errors in the registry or worse, software incompatibilities. Another sign that something could be "wrong" is that improper icons are shown in the Windows explorer and on the start menu.. Sometimes the normal "put your computer to sleep, but don't turn it off completely" setting will go wacky. This means instead of shutting off, it only goes to sleep and wakes itself up with any movement, APPEARING to be restarting. It may have a setting for "launch browser upon starting up". If thgis all sounds like gobbledygook to you..find a friend who does understand the control panel settings. Unplug it directly from the wall and the phone jack.. I dont know if a virus causes it, or what... But that always seems to work for us.
