Guest guest
Dear Jan, I hope you got yourself a musical instruments later, to fulfill that wish. I am very fond of Jazz music myself, if only as an amateur. Especially love Gerry Mulligan's "cool" jazz. But I can also understand your parents' concern because, come to think of it, Gerry Mulligan also did a brief jail term on drug charges; many of his colleagues had similar problems. One should think that music would have a stabilizing effect on a person's psyche, but it doesn't always seem to be the case. The sight of grown ups, caught in rigid opinions, unable to reason on the basis of perceptions, unable to give the benefit of the doubt and experiment, meant that there was no wish to be involved in society - in Europe, it's next to impossible to teach kids privately in such a way as not to foster conditioning. And destiny didn't present the 'option' to be involved with kids. : :If you feel these questions to be too personal, please simply ignore them, :but as a father of two, and also as a former educator, I'd be very :interested in your opinion. Nothing is too personal Sometimes i see a kid that (still) isn't conditioned and the recognition is always mutual. Conditioning could be defined as the mental layer of opinions concerning an object whereas without conditioning, "just" the object is observed - the analogy of navigating through a haze or when it's sunny. That is what i would make kids aware of - if for instance they "just" see some cat, or if they see a cat with their opinions unknowingly attached to it... : :As to not making a distinction between "you" and "me" - that's the goal! I :have to admit, though, that I am not there yet. :-) In the land called "sentience" there isn't a goal, only a journey Peace, Jan : :Take care, : :Michael /join All paths go somewhere. My father wanted me to have the kind of career he would have liked himself, so he challenged me to take the old radio apart and make a new one out of it, beginning with a simple 1 valve set with headphones. That went well and being able to listen to everything what formerly was denied, soon my knowledge was at a point, no longer funny for my father. Designing rather complicated sets and devoting all available time to it, having got permission to ransack the library for adults at the age of 12, he had to discover again, that the situation was "beyond" his control. º ºBut I can also understand your parents' concern because, come to think of ºit, Gerry Mulligan also did a brief jail term on drug charges; many of his ºcolleagues had similar problems. This can be extremely blissful so when coming out of it, that feels terrible, and without proper knowledge, that could lead to the use of drugs, eating disorders, booze, just to fill the void.... Not a surprise at all - what is sad is that the mechanism isn't recognized, even by those, supposedly 'realized' yogis. Peace, Jan
