Guest guest
Dear All I joined the group in September and Harshaji gave me a very warm welcome. I have had a difficult time following all the messages on this active group owing to my commitments. I am looking for any Satsangh group that might be meeting in London on a periodic basis. My great grandfather TKS lived with Bhagawan and my grandfather has had many meetings with Bhagawan as a child. My grandfather lives in Bangalore and relates many anecdotes about Bhagawan. Although for a large part of my life I grew up oblivious to the teachings of Bhagawan, my visit this year to Ramanasramam opened my inner eyes and it was a spiritually elevating experience which woke me up from a brief slumber. I practice Vipassana meditation and it has given me tremendous benefits on the spiritual path. Hope to be an active part of the discussion in the future. Guest guest
Dear Jay, there is a Satsangh group in London with regular meetings. You may contact Jane Adams Jacobs and Alan Jacobs, Ramana Maharshi Foundation, 53 Broadfield, Broasthurst Gardens, London NW6 3BN; Tel: 0207 328 6610. There is also a very good tri-annual journal "Self Enquiry" published by the Foundation and a newsletter with events all over Europe and other informations. The basis of the Foundation is the teaching of Sri Ramana, but also of other Advaita teachers. You say your great grandfather lived with Bhagavan and your grandfather had many meetings with him. How blessed are you! Would you like to share some of their many anecdotes with us? Please do so! It would be very welcome! Warm regards Jay Jayanth NarayananPhD ProgrammeOrganizational BehaviorLondon Business SchoolPh: +44 (0)20 72625050 x.3014Mobile: 44 (0) 7947060566 Hello Everyone, Many of you may know that Jay who is in a Ph.D. program in U.K is the great grandson of TKS., one of the early devotees of Sri Ramana. Here is the story I sometimes post about TKS and Bhagavan Ramana. It is one of my favorites. Love to all Harsha T.K. Sundaresa Iyer (T.K.S) met Sri Ramana in 1908 when T.K.S was only a 12 year old boy. His cousin Krishnamurthy had been visiting Ramana Maharshi regularly and would sing songs of devotion to him. One day T.K.S asked his cousin where he went every day. Krishnamurthy told him about Ramana and said, "The Lord of the Hill Himself is sitting in human form, why don't you come with me." Both of them then climbed the Hill and went to Virupksha cave. Now the story in T.K.S.'s own words. "I too climbed the Hill and found Bhagwan sitting on a stone slab, with about 10 devotees around him. Each would sing a song. Bhagwan turned to me and asked, "Well, won't you sing a song also." One of Sundramurthy's songs came to my mind and I sang it. It's meaning was, "No other support have I, except thy holy feet. By holding on to them, I shall win your grace. Great men sing your praise Oh, Lord. Grant that my tongue may repeat Thy name even when my mind strays." "Yes. That is what must be done," said Bhagwan, and I took it to be his teaching for me. From that time on, I went to see him regularly for several years without missing a day." "One day I wondered why I was visiting him at all. What was the use? There seemed to be no inner advancement. Going up the hill was meaningless toil. I decided to end my visits on the hill." "For one hundred days exactly I did not see Bhagavan. On the hundred and first day I could suffer no longer and I ran to Skandasramam, above Virupaksha Cave. Bhagavan saw me climbing, got up and came forward to meet me. When I fell at his feet, I could not restrain myself and burst into tears. I clung to them and would not get up. Bhagavan pulled me up and asked: "It is over three months since I saw you. Where were you?'' I told him how I thought that seeing him was of no use. "All right,'' he said, "maybe it is of no use, so what? You felt the loss, did you not?'' Then I understood that we did not go to him for profit, but because away from him there was no life for us." >From "At the Feet of Bhagwan" by T.K. Sundaresa Iyer. Guest guest
Dear Gabrielle Thank you so much for the information. I shall ask my grandfather to share some anecdotes. He is an 80 yr old man and has received tremendous grace from Bhagawan. He remembers getting a lot of sugar candy from Bhagawan as prasadam. When my mother was born Bhagawan told my grandfather to name her "Bharathi". One incident which demonstrates the infinite love Bhagawan had for his devotees: My great grandfather TKS was a school teacher. He literally used to live in the ashram and used to go back home only to change clothes and bathe. One day he was so lost in meditation that he forgot to go to school. Apparently that was an important day for him to be in school. Bhagawan came upto him and said in Tamil: " Wont u go to school?? The headmaster is waiting for you at the gate". TKS realizing this rushed to school and found the headmaster right at the gate. This is just to illustrate how much care Bhagawan took of his devotees. I remember many such small incidents that my grandfather keeps talking about which I shall post in due course. May there be peace. May all be happy Jay Jayanth NarayananPhD ProgrammeOrganizational BehaviorLondon Business SchoolPh: +44 (0)20 72625050 x.3014Mobile: 44 (0) 7947060566 - Gabriele Ebert Thursday, December 20, 2001 9:38 PM Re: Satsangh in UK Dear Jay, there is a Satsangh group in London with regular meetings.
