Guest guest
ah....well...., this is why white wolfe almost always refers to the beloved.....who is the beloved.....for a man, it must needs be a woman....for a woman, it must needs be a man.....i will side-step the complex issue of homo-sexuality here for a moment.....this is the real metaphysical argument against chastity and a chaste priesthood.....perhaps it is why most priests are in-effectual counselors to married couples....they are unfamiliar with the territory of true surrender and compromise over difficult issues like should the children eat there vegetables tonight (no sarcasm intended - many marriages crumble on simple stumbling blocks such as this).....non-duality is discovered, among other places, when two lovers unite in holy matrimony and mutually surrender one to the other.....but perhaps, before the divine we are all feminine....so it only makes sense that the universal mother of us all (mary/shakti/tara/mary/arianrhod,etc.) is the first priest.....i, for one, have always found mary the most compelling image(s) within the catholic pantheon to be the immaculate heart of mary and the sacred heart of jesus.....i use the rosary regularly in my contemplative practice along with lectio divina....who has seen such sorrow as sorrow of a mother burying a son (christian).....or, even more harrowing, a mother eating one of her off-spring (hindu).....our salvation has been purchased at a great price, but the salvation of our children comes at an even higher one.....^^~~~~~~ further up and further in, white wolfe - Patrick Collins thomasmerton Sunday, December 30, 2001 9:28 PM Re: [thomasmerton] The First Priest I am one of the "older" breed (once the New Breed after Vatican II!) and agree with you, Jonathan. The most "progressive" priests I know are the older ones, perhaps because they have seen a bit of what the world is really like and what His voice really sounds like. But that's just my own bias. I'm sure a persuasive argument could be made for the opposite point of view. But still, when Teresa of Avila, Catherine of Sienna and Therese of Lisieux all felt called to the priesthood, a person as unsophisticated as I am has to wonder.Jonathan> Mmmm...very touching words indeed.Something to really> to think about.
