In a henhouse, chickens are feeling safe because they haven't seen anything threatening. Throw in a toothless fox and the chickens will start to cackle and run in panic. The 'good' to be amplified,, the 'bad' to be rejected, and banned from society. That is the best recipe to ensure an unchanged behavior regarding the 'handling' of these 'evil' tendencies, and 'at best' the continuation of the effects of suppression, like greed and selfishness. "At worst", the effects of these tendencies will dominate society - the US serve as a good example of that. The 'engineer's' solution of course, would be to provide a 'useful' expression for these 'bad' tendencies as not one human is free from them. Only that way, development can be harmonious. The other way doesn't have to be explored: the past century was the most violent one in recorded history and the increase in profits from armament industries indicate that will only get 'worse'. Perhaps taking the above 'at heart' can provide the incentive to speak openly without feeling suppressed or hindered. Peace, Jan
Guest guest
....you are singing to the choir jan-san....projecting onto my words you know not who i am any more than i know who you are....the great tao floods and flows in every direction....knowing others is intelligence....how much distinction is there between good and evil....knowing the self is wisdom.....to know honor and keep to wisdom is to be the valley of the world....how much distinction is there between yes and no....i rest in the abode of my beloved even as i dance on the perimeter of the circle....words, crack and sometimes break, they will not stand the strain of talking about the tao....tao is beyond words and beyond imagination.....it is neither duality nor non-duality.....the ten thousand things should be named and not named and then distinction should stop....if the absolute resides within, why are we always seeking wisdom outside ourselves....or worse, trying to impart it to others in the belief that we know what is better for them than they do themselves....for me, non-duality is the experience of opening my heart and reaching out with an integral embrace to include all experience and wisdom that presents itself to my limited human consciousness.....thus, i am neither that not am i not that....as before...love, joy, compassion and equanimity to you all (the tough kind andºthe soft fuzzy kind!)....^^~~~~~º>º> further up and further in,º>º> white wolfe p.s. the soft fuzzy love is my non-dual response to harsha's tough love...allow yourself to yield and you can stay centered....namaste....^^~~~~~ Thanks for the laugh Mark - life cannot be artificially dividedbetween 'tough' and 'soft'. Guest guest
White wolfe, no "spiritual" lingo can conceal attachments, for instance to "ordinary family life" with it's "cherished" values, when preponderant in a mind-body.. Any value system itself will be both the judge and executioner - 'home made' so to say. Hence the only relevant issue is "optimal human functioning" which is possible in a wide variety of cultures and a matter of careful observation.
